MADISON – The number of new business entities formed in Wisconsin in 2012 totaled 35,988, an increase of 8.4% compared to 2011, according to data released today by the Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions (DFI).
The 2012 growth rate was more than three times higher than the 2.3% increase in 2011, and the number of entities formed was the highest since 2007. New business entity formation has been tracking ahead of the prior year for seven consecutive quarters.
The business formation data is compiled by DFI, which is the filing office for the creation of business entities in the state. DFI tracks new business entity creation on a monthly basis and posts the data on its website.
