Dunn County Board approves $69 million budget, $21 million tax levy, Budget represents a .04% increase

MENOMONIE — The Dunn County Board approved a budget for 2013 of $69.1 million with a tax levy of $20.7 million at the annual budget meeting November 13.
In past years, the Dunn County Board held the budget meeting in the morning, but this year’s meeting was held in the evening.
The budget for 2013 of $69,170,701 represents a .04 percent increase over last year’s budget of $69,145,866.
The tax levy includes $9.4 million for the county’s general fund; $2.96 million for special revenue funds; $1.75 million for debt service funds; $500,000 for the Dunn County Health Care Center; $4.74 million for the highway department.
In addition, the tax levy includes $225,537 for bridge aid and $736,993 for public libraries in the county.
The budget for 2013 includes $21.67 million for the general fund; $2.34 million for solid waste and recycling; $2.79 million for debt service; $9.04 million for human services; $11.6 million for the health care center; $12.24 million for the highway department; $989,456 for the transit commission; $7.56 million for self-funded health insurance; $822,676 for self-funded workers’ compensation.
Personnel changes
During the November 13 meeting, the county board approved a number of changes in job classes and positions.
The county will gain two part-time employees as service desk technicians, will gain one part-time web support specialist, will gain one part-time land assessment coordinator, will gain one full-time criminal justice coordinator, and will gain two full-time economic support specialists for human services.
The county will lose two-full time financial and employment planners in human services; will decrease one full-time to part-time social worker for the health care center; will decrease six registered nurses at the health care center to part-time; will decrease one full-time nurse practitioner to part-time at the health care center; will decrease six full-time licensed practical nurses to part-time at the health care center; will decrease one full-time activity aide to part-time at the health care center; will decrease five full-time housekeepers to part-time at the health care center; will decrease two full-time laundry positions at the health care center to part-time; will decrease one full-time to part-time janitor at the health care center.
The changes go into effect January 1, 2013.
Other business
In other business, the Dunn County Board of Supervisors:
• Approved canceling $6337.55 in checks that were issued by the county in 2010 but never cashed. The checks range from a high of $3,105.99 to a low of $1.50.
• Reviewed purchase orders in the amount of $109,000 for the Dunn County emergency communication center; $179,612 for materials for the health care center; $222.885.64 for materials for the health care center; $102,186 for hot mix for county Highway H; $47,539 for materials for the health care center; $703,191 for construction manager services to contract with subcontractors for the health care center.
