Fire at Somerset structure claims life

SOMERSET – A fire in the Town of Somerset late Friday evening, October 5 claimed the life of an elderly man.

Thomas H. Cook, 72, died in the blaze. His wife, Linda J. Cook, 62, was able to escape the fire. She was taken to Regions but has since been released.

The St. Croix County Emergency Communications Center began receiving calls of a structure fire at 2107 CTH I, in Somerset Township, around 10:58 pm Friday, October 5th.

Upon arrival by emergency services, they were advised that one person, Linda Cook, had escaped the fire, and reports were that another person was still in the residence. Linda Cook was transported by Lakeview EMS to Regions with injuries resulting from the fire.

After the fire had been extinguished, the body of Thomas Cook was located within the residence.

The St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office is being assisted by the WI State Fire Marshall during this ongoing investigation.

The Somerset and St. Joseph Fire Departments were assisted by the Osceola, New Richmond and Hudson Fire Departments.
