Roberts woman killed in hit and run; man arrested
WARREN TOWNSHIP – An 84 year-old Roberts woman was struck and killed in a hit and run accident Wednesday afternoon, September 19 in St. Croix County’s Warren Township.
Lucille M. Hansen was hit by a vehicle in front of her home at 1378 County Highway TT in the Town of Warren around 3:00 pm September 19. Hansen was later pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Croix County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Witnesses to the accident were able to provide the St. Croix County Sheriff’s Department with a description of the vehicle and reported that the vehicle had continued west on CTH TT.
Authorities quickly located the vehicle in question, a 1997 Ford Taurus, in the City of Hudson and arrested its driver, Robert Charles Boles, 36, of Hammond in connection with the incident. Boles was being held in the St. Croix County Jail. He was charged in St. Croix County Circuit Court Friday, September 21 with homicide by negligent operation of a vehicle and hit and run resulting in a death.
According to the accident report, Boles was westbound on CTH TT when he allegedly hit Hansen and then fled the scene. Witnesses were able to provide a description of the car and that its windshield had been broken in the crash.
Boles, who also was charged with operating a motor vehicle with a revoked license causing a death, was stopped by police in Hudson just a short time after the accident. The criminal complaint stated that there was a large hole in the windshield, visible damage to the hood of the car and blood on the vehicle.
A hearing for Boles was scheduled Monday, September 24.
The St. Croix County Sheriff’s investigation is still ongoing. The department was assisted by the Roberts and Hammond Police, Roberts Fire and Rescue, United Fire, Baldwin EMS, and the Wisconsin State Patrol.
Hansen was St. Croix County’s 11th traffic-related fatality of 2012.
