Motorcylists dies in crash

TOWN OF CYLON – A New Richmond man became St. Croix County’s 12th traffic fatality this year when the motorcycle he was driving struck a deer in the early evening hours last Thursday.

Richard J. Shade, 47, was traveling westbound on County Highway S in the Town of Cylon when he apparently struck a deer on the left side of the motorcycle he was driving and lost control. The accident happened around 7:26 pm Thursday, September 20th about a half mile east of 215th Street in St. Croix County.

Shade was ejected from the cycle, which slide a few feet and came to rest in the middle of the roadway. A passerby found Shade and the cycle and called 911.

Shade was airlifted to Regions Hospital in St. Paul, MN by Lifelink Helicopter but died the following day from his injuries.

The St. Croix Sheriff’s Office, which was assisted at the scene by the Deer Park Fire and First Responders and the New Richmond Fire and EMS, noted that Shade was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
