State Fair Winner

STATE FAIR WINNER — Gretchen Draxler’s winning recipe was for her Rye, Stout, and Cheddar bread. There were 14 other competitors chosen from around the state. The judges noted how well her loaf was baked and presented. Also, how her ingredients worked together and each element added to make a very aromatic and flavorful loaf. The theme was “Digging Local”, so she featured Sharp Cheddar Cheese from Ellsworth Co-op Creamery and a Milk Stout from Brickfield Brewing in Grantsburg, to represent northwest Wisconsin. Gretchen was the winner of the local contest at the St. Croix County Fair this past July, allowing her to represent St. Croix County at the Wisconsin State Fair. Gretchen is 17 years old and a senior at Glenwood City High School, her parents are Chuck and Lara Draxler. —photo submitted
