The Herb Kohl Educational Foundation supports graduating high school students throughout the State of Wisconsin. This year, 187 students were selected for the highly competitive recognition by the Kohl Foundation. The Student Excellence and Initiative Scholarships recognize not only academic excellence but also leadership and service to schools and communities.

According to the recent Kohl Foundation News Release by JoAnne Anton, President and CEO of Herb Kohl Philanthropies, “Herb Kohl believed that education is the key to the future of Wisconsin and our nation”. In addition, “We hope this year’s awards help this impressive group of recipients in their individual pursuits today so that they can pay it forward in the future. We call that the Herb Kohl Way”.

This year Boyceville High School Senior, Braden Roemhild, was selected for his outstanding contributions to the school and community. Braden is the son of Corrie and Brian Roemhild of Boyceville. Braden has been highly involved in all aspects of student activities from academic, athletics and volunteerism. He is the Co-Valedictorian for the Class of 2024. He is a Student Council Member and now President for the past three years and an active member of the National Honor Society. He is involved with the Spanish Club, Quiz Bowl and has volunteered for numerous hours with National Honor Society community events. Braden has supported United Way projects and helps coordinate local youth athletic camps. His leadership skills are developed through his active participation in athletics. He is a three-sport athlete in Football, Baseball and Basketball. He has earned individual All-Conference Honors in Football and Baseball, has been a team Captain and earned Academic All-State recognition for his commitment to excellence in his studies. The Kohl Scholarship is earned by students with the highest levels of active involvement within their schools and communities, which made Braden the ideal candidate for the award. This fall Braden will be attending UW-River Falls pursuing a degree in Education.
