Fetzer named Optimist Club Youth of the Month

EMILY FETZER
The Menomonie Optimist Club honored Emily Fetzer of Boyceville High School as the February Youth of the Month. Optimists have recognized outstanding students from Dunn County’s four high schools for over 30 years.
Emily Fetzer is described as hard-working, sincere, honest and kind by her teachers. She ranks first in her senior class, which she also serves as class president. In addition, Emily this year was elected student body president for the whole high school. A member of the National Honor Society, the volleyball and softball teams, Emily also serves as manager of the boys basketball team. She has earned over 40 medals on Boyceville’s vaunted Science Olympiad team, where she volunteers to coach new team members. Emily has been on the yearbook staff all four years and serves as editor as a senior.
Her community service activities include volunteering for the Dunn County Humane Society, Feed My People, the Menomonie Chamber of Commerce Christmas Lights project, and Red Cross blood drives. Emily plans to attend UW-Madison where she will major in Pharmacology or Toxicology. Emily is the daughter of Frank and Stacy Fetzer.
Menomonie Optimists serve the youth of Dunn County in other ways, such as including them in various work projects with the DNR at Hoffman Hills State Recreation Area. Optimists have also provided a dictionary to every third grade student in Dunn County, and host the Menomin Meander.
