BHS Science Olympiad wins small school division at UWRF Invite

RIVER FALLS- – The Boyceville Science Olympiad attended the UW-River Falls Invitational in-person for the first time since 2020 this past weekend, winning the small school division and placing fourth overall out of 61 teams.  Boyceville High School medal winners were as follows:

Gold medals were earned by the following:

Flight – Juniors Zach Kersten and Becca Wyss; Forensics – Wyss and sophomore Emily Fetzer; Horticulture – Freshmen Samantha Stoveren and Karen Schaff (JV) ; Its About Time –  Juniors Peter Wheeldon and Caden Wold; Robo Cross – Junior Parker Coombs and Wheeldon; Scrambler – Wheeldon and Wold; Trajectory – Coombs and Kersten

Silver medals were earned by the following:

Bridges – Juniors Hannah Dunn and Cora Leslie (JV); Experimental Design – Coombs, Wheeldon, and Wyss; Robo Cross – Samantha Stoveren and seventh grader John Stoveren; WIFI Lab – Sophomore Abigail Bauer and freshman Loralie West; Flight – Leslie and Dunn (JV)

Bronze medals were earned by the following:

Anatomy & Physiology – Junior Kylie Luedtke and senior Dawson Standaert; Bridges – Coombs and Wold; Codebusters – Schaff, eighth grader Eleanor Farrell, and seventh grader Ivan Farrell (JV); Detector Building – Wyss and Coombs; Detector Building – Senior Kaianna Banyai and junior Treylin Thorson (JV); Disease Detectives – Standaert and Wyss; Geocaching – Schaff and Eleanor Farrell (JV); Horticulture – Fetzer and freshman Anna Hafermann; Precision Medicine – Luedtke and Standaert; Scrambler – Thorson and Standaert (JV)

Fourth place medals were earned by the following:

Astronomy – Wheeldon and Luedtke; Cell Biology – Standaert and Luedtke; Horticulture – Junior Alison McRoberts and Dunn (JV); Virology – Bauer and Standaert

“Our team did an outstanding job at UW-River Falls” said Boyceville head coach Andy Hamm.  “I am really proud of all of the hard work our kids put in over the past week to prepare for another tournament only a week after our last one. The kids did a great job representing Boyceville and I am excited to see the growth we have experienced throughout the season. We are looking forward to going to Ohio in a few weeks to compete against national-level competition.

Boyceville High School will next be in action at the Solon (OH) Invitational and will be joined by the middle school team at this national-level invitational on February 4. Boyceville Science Olympiad is coached by Andy Hamm, Russ Riehbrandt, and Steve Duerst.
