Glenwood City and Boyceville thinclads open seasons at Stout’s Northern Badger Classic Indoor Invite

MENOMONIE — 35 girls teams and 32 boys teams were represented at the Small School Northern Badger Classic Invite held at the UW-Stout Fieldhouse in Menomonie last Saturday, March 26.
The Glenwood City boys had the top area finish as they took seventh with 28 points while Boyceville tallied eight points to finish 18th. On the girls’ side, Glenwood City scored eight points to finish in a tie for 20th place with Athens while Boyceville placed 23rd with five points. There were 13 events in the indoor meet.
Glenwood City
Junior JJ Williams claimed the Hilltoppers only first-place finish at the Northern Badger Classic. Williams won the 1,600 meters in a time of 4:42.39 while teammate and senior Austin Nelson placed third with a time of 4:49.39.
The boys’ 4×400 meter relay team copped second in a time of 3:43.44.
Junior Brady Klatt went 19’ 2.5” in the long jump to take fifth, while follows junior Blake Wakeling (10’) and Nick Hierlmeier (8’) took ninth and 18th, respectively, in the pole vault. Hierlmeier also placed tenth in the shot put while Wakeling was 14th in the 55 meter hurdles and 25th in the high jump.
Juniors Elek Anderson finished 13th in the 800 meter run and 23rd in the triple jump while Wyatt Thompson took 17th in the 400 meter dash and 25th in the long jump.
Sophomore Connor Berends copped an 11th in the 3,200 meter run.
Senior Brianna Schwartz paced the Glenwood City girls with a sixth-place finish in the triple jump (29’ 10”) and a 13th in the pole vault (6’).
The Toppers girls placed fifth in the 4×400 meter relay.
Another senior Bella Simmons took eighth in the 1,600 meter run while freshman Elsja Meijer came in tenth in the 3,200 meter run.
Sophomore Haylie Hannah was 12th in the 55 meter hurdles and 19th in the 55 meter dash and freshman Kaylynn Kurtz took 18th in the 800 meter run.
Boyceville
Sophomore Caden Wold was the Bulldogs top place winner at Stout.
Wold jumped 19’ 9.5” in the long jump to finish in second place. Wold also placed 17th in the 55 meter dash.
Brandon Dunn threw the shot put 37’ 1.5” to place 13th. Michael Montgomery and Marik Ebensberger were 36th and 44th, respectively, in the 800 meter run and Aidan Madison came in 41st int he 1,600 meters.
Haylie Rasmussen led the Bulldog girls with a fourth-place showing in the high jump as she cleared 4’ 10”.
Abbygail Schlough placed tenth in the triple jump and 11th in the pole vault.
Jaden Stevens placed fifth in the 800 meters while Lauren Becker took 40th in the 55 meter hurdles and 47th in the 400 meter dash.
Finally, Ashley Prestrud was 50th in the long jump, 64th and 90th in the 55 and 200 meters dashes, respectively.
