Here we are, 30 days from Halloween, 55 days until Thanksgiving, then Christmas is 84 days away with a brand new year starting in 91 days!!! But, I am getting ahead of myself here. Let’s start with the last days of September and slowly go forward.

This week, the residents tried to fight off the fatigue that comes with the changing seasons (and full moon, most likely.) We started our week with some good range of motion exercises and a rousing game of kick ball. Then, we attempted to bake homemade strawberry pie. I’ve never been able to perfect my pie crust dough, but thanks to our experienced residents I was tutored on how to cut in the butter (though shortening is better, I was told) and handle the dough. Awesome lesson!

We had Glen Hills Methodist church out on Tuesday for a service. The ladies were delightful and they let the residents who attended choose the songs. Way to be inclusive!

Speaking of inclusive, starting this month, Glenhaven, Grand Oaks, and Havenwood will be participating as a whole in activities. That means more competition for those BINGO chocolates!

BINGO, *sigh*, BINGO…our lovely ladies from administration hosted BINGO on Wednesday and had a great turnout! It was wonderful of them to fill in when I was not able to. The residents would have rioted if they did not have BINGO.

October is Resident’s Rights Month. We held our first resident council meeting with myself facilitating. Beverlye Thompson is the Resident Council President and she conducted a very professional meeting. I look forward to working with this dynamic woman on issues that affect the quality of life for our residents. I must say, that our residents are very satisfied with the commitment to care they receive from all departments. In these trying times, that is refreshing to hear. They are, after all, why we do what we do.

The leaves are in full fall splendor, take some time to enjoy the beauty this weekend.
