It’s Fair Time!
We spent a lot of time preparing for the fair this week. Monday and Tuesday afternoon the Glenhaven Baking Club was busy making pie, muffins, cookies, bars and bread to take to the Senior Citizen building. We’ll see how we do. If nothing else, the extras make for good snacks for a few days. We had Bev, Dave, Cherrie, Olga, Betty, and Gladys all involved in the process. They were troopers.
Bev also baked a couple of items with daughter Becky. Bev said she used to do all the baking for the Downing Café when her daughter was running it. She is definitely a good cook! She also likes to write poetry, so is entering some of that in the fair, as well as some houseplants.
Ruth had quite a list of things to take, including some of her knitting and drawing. Ruth is always knitting little caps for babies, which are taken to hospitals for newborns.
Lois from Havenwood also has a number of antiques entered.
We changed our schedule around a little bit, as Wednesday afternoon we had to get our items entered. So Bingo was played on Thursday. We had a nice gathering for Bingo, and afterwards we enjoyed banana bread made by Bev Thompson.
Fair Update- went and checked out the ribbons at the Senior Building on Thursday night, and we did great! Several reserve champions, and blue ribbons. Only one red. Congratulations, everybody!
We had exercises twice this week, and spent some time outside, when the weather permitted. We’ve spent a lot of time watering the flowers lately. I’m sure everyone out there appreciated the rain on Wednesday. We had 2 inches in our gauge in Emerald. We need a lot more to catch up to the average amount for this time of the year.
Friday was our popcorn day, and we also enjoyed some fair food in the afternoon, since we were unable to take anyone down there this year. Residents enjoyed mini corndogs, pie and cream puffs.
Holy Cross will be here for services on the 20th, and Betty Steies will be celebrating her birthday on the 25th. Happy Birthday, Betty Boop!
We welcomed some new employees this week, who went through orientation. Welcome, newbies!
Have a good week everyone. It sounds like the heat is on again!
