June 5-11
Wow! This heat is getting way too intense! Hope we see some relief soon. The residents like to get outside, but it’s been just too much of a good thing.
We started Monday out with exercises, which was followed by our June Resident Council meeting. We had a very good meeting, and discussed a lot of topics.
The afternoon was manicure time, which a lot of the ladies enjoy.
We had our first live church service in many months, when Pastor Brad and Lee Peeshaw came and did services here on Tuesday. Residents loved it, and are looking forward to more of the same. TV was good, but in person is much better.
Our cooking club was also back in session after many months. We made strawberry-rhubarb pie, which turned out very good. Some thought it was a little tart, but that’s rhubarb for you. Bev, Olga, and Selma helped to cut up the rhubarb and rolled out the crusts. They did a great job! We enjoyed the pie on Wednesday for snack after Bingo. Most of the plates were empty, so it must have been good!
Jen was on the job on Wednesday fixing up the ladies and doing haircuts. She always does a nice job.
Exercises were enjoyed on Thursday morning, and shuffle board in the afternoon. We had good attendance, as usual. We play on top of a table instead of on the floor, and many residents really enjoy it. Our big winner was Bev Thompson, followed by Cherrie Timm, and Willard Tronrud. Good job, everyone! It was also National Iced Tea Day on Thursday, so just for something different, we had iced tea with cookies for snacks after shuffleboard.
Friday morning, Father John from St. John’s was here for Catholic Mass. Residents were glad to see him also, after so many months of not having services.
We appreciate all the churches for their wonderful support during the last year. We know you put forth a lot of effort to make services available however you could, and we much appreciate you for that. It is great to have you back in our midst again! Let’s hope it stays that way!
The plan was to go outside on Friday afternoon, but the heat was just too much. So we did a crossword puzzle together. We have some very sharp residents. With a little extra clues, they managed to get almost every one of the answers. We have some interesting times trying to find clues that everyone will understand. This week we tapped into a nursery rhyme to get them to get the word “stile”. Do you readers remember the nursery rhyme titled “There Was a Crooked Man?” A couple of ladies jumped right in when I started it. They are amazing.
John Dale celebrated his birthday on the 9th. Happy Birthday, John!
Next week will be Richard Gehlhart’s birthday.
Have a good week, everyone, and keep cool!
