BOYCEVILLE — The Boyce-ville High School Class of 2021 features 19 honor students including four co-valedictorians, a salutatorian, nine with high honors and five with honors.
The valedictorians and saluatatorian are featured in the Tribune Press Reporter’s Special 2021 Graduation section that was part of May 19 edition. Those receiving honors (3.5 to 3.74 GPA) and high honors (3.75 or higher GPA) are listed below.
High Honors
Walker Retz

Walker Retz
Walker is the son of Kathy and Jayme Retz.
1. List your top three favorite high school classes. Why were they favorite classes? Engineering, AP Calculus, and Chemistry. They were my favorite class because I enjoyed being taught by Mr. Hamm and Mr. Fetzer.
2. Describe the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school? Why was it memorable? The most memorable event to me was when the baseball team competed in the state baseball tournament. It was an experience that not many high school athletes get to have.
3. Provide a list of activities in which you were involved during high school and list the years of involvement. What was your favorite and why? National Honor Society – 2 years / Varsity baseball – 3 years / Varsity basketball – 2 years / Varsity Wrestling – 1 year. Varsity baseball was my favorite.
4. What are your plans for this summer after graduation? Summer job? I plan to play competitive baseball for a travel team based in Minnesota while working a part-time job.
5. Are you planning to attend college or technical school, and if so, where? What will be your major? If you are an undecided major, what are your interests right now? I am going to attend the University of St. Thomas. I plan to major in Health and Exercise Science on the route to become a chiropractor.
Chesney Leslie

Chesney Leslie
Chesney is the daughter of Blaine and Erin Leslie, and Roni Voeltz.
1. List your top three favorite high school classes. Why were they favorite classes? Sociology – laid back, interesting topics; AP Chemistry – interesting labs, fun classmates; Spanish 3 – my favorite teacher.
2. Describe the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school? Why was it memorable? Wrestling cheerleading because I had so many fun memories with my cheer squad. I’m going to miss this the most.
3. Provide a list of activities in which you were involved during high school and list the years of involvement. What was your favorite and why? Volleyball (9-12); Wrestling Cheer (9-12); Track (9-10); Dance (10th); NHS (11th-12th); Class of Officer (9-10); Wrestling Cheer, because it felt like a family and we bonded so much.
4. What are your plans for this summer after graduation? Summer job? I plan to work as a CNS at a nursing home, and spend time with family and friends.
5. Are you planning to attend college or technical school, and if so, where? What will be your major? If you are an undecided major, what are your interests right now? I plan to attend University of Wisconsin – Madison to pursue a major in nursing.
Chrissa Kersten

Chrissa Kersten
Chrissa is the daughter of Luke and Alesha Kersten.
1. List your top three favorite high school classes. Why were they favorite classes? Spanish – I really enjoyed learning a different language and culture; Physiology and Anatomy – I am very interested in the human body and how it works; Algebra – I have always enjoyed math.
2. Describe the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school? Why was it memorable? The most memorable event during my high school career other than covid was homecoming freshman year. The pep fest was a lot of fun.
3. Provide a list of activities in which you were involved during high school and list the years of involvement. What was your favorite and why? Volleyball 9-12; baseball 9, 10, 12; track 9, 10; dance team 10, 12; NHS 11, 12; Student council 9, 10, 11, no 12 due to covid. My favorite activity was volleyball because I love the sport and I had great teammates.
4. What are your plans for this summer after graduation? Summer job? I plan to start working this summer in order to make some money for college. I plan to work at Glen Hills in the clubhouse..
5. Are you planning to attend college or technical school, and if so, where? What will be your major? If you are an undecided major, what are your interests right now? I am planning to attend UW-River Falls and major in Secondary Education. I hope to become either a math or science teacher.
Alexia Kaiser

Alexia Kaiser
Alexia is the daughter of Nicholas and Jennifer Kaiser.
1. List your top three favorite high school classes. Why were they favorite classes? Sociology; 2. Phys and Anat; 3. Adv. Algebra. These were my favorite classes because the teachers made learning enjoyable and I loved the material being taught.
2. Describe the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school? Why was it memorable? During my junior year we had lunch activities during homecoming and the teachers were playing volleyball vs. the students and Mr. Moy spiked the ball down, and knocked a kid to the ground.
3. Provide a list of activities in which you were involved during high school and list the years of involvement. What was your favorite and why? In high school I did volleyball, dance, track, softball, and club gymnastics. I also participated in student government, NHS, Spanish Club, FCCLA and Youth Group. My favorite was volleyball because of all the fun memories we made
4. What are your plans for this summer after graduation? Summer job? After graduating I plan to continue my job at Helen’s Home in Boyceville as well as having as much fun as possible before leaving for UW-Madison.
5. Are you planning to attend college or technical school, and if so, where? What will be your major? If you are an undecided major, what are your interests right now? Yes, I am going to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I plan to major in Psychology and pre-med to become a physician’s assistant.
Brendan Hazelton

Brendan Hazelton
Brendan is the son of Ralph and Brenda Williams, Curt Hazelton.
1. List your top three favorite high school classes. Why were they favorite classes? Ag Mechanics – I got to learn how to weld and do other things in a shop. Civics – Mr. Engel is a great teacher who made class exciting and I was always eager to learn more.
2. Describe the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school? Why was it memorable? Finally making it to the playoffs in football and winning the game at home was an astounding memory because I have always been passionate about football and having all of my hand work pay off felt great.
3. Provide a list of activities in which you were involved during high school and list the years of involvement. What was your favorite and why? Football – freshman, sophomore, junior, senior; Basketball – freshman, sophomore, junior, senior; Track – freshman, sophomore; FFA – senior. Football has always been my favorite because I grew up watching my brother Jonny play and I always knew I wanted to play.
4. What are your plans for this summer after graduation? Summer job? I’m going to start working at Cardinal FG just outside of Menomonie.
5. Are you planning to attend college or technical school, and if so, where? What will be your major? If you are an undecided major, what are your interests right now? I might go to CVTC in the future if I need it to better my career where I am working. Or if I decide I want to pursue something else.
Faith Harnisch

Faith Harnisch
Faith is the daughter of Bryan and Laura Harnsich.
1. List your top three favorite high school classes. Why were they favorite classes? Gym – Everything was always fun; Art 1 – we got to do whatever we want as long as it was part of the unit; Ag Orientation – Mr. K was fun and we went on a lot of field trips.
2. Describe the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school? Why was it memorable? Freshman Homecoming, when we did the skits watching Luke K dress as a cheerleader in uniform was absolutely hilarious.
3. Provide a list of activities in which you were involved during high school and list the years of involvement. What was your favorite and why? Volleyball – 9th, 10th, 11th; Basketball – 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th; Track – 10th; Spring Musical – 10th, 11th; Fall Play 11th. Basketball has always been my favorite sport since I can remember.
4. What are your plans for this summer after graduation? Summer job? Work and save money for college. I have a job at Culvers that is a lot of fun.
5. Are you planning to attend college or technical school, and if so, where? What will be your major? If you are an undecided major, what are your interests right now? I am planning on attending UW-Superior. My major is Elementary Education. I really enjoy working with little kids and being a teacher will be a lot of fun.
Grace Edlin

Grace Edlin
Grace is the daughter of Dr. Scott and Dawn Edlin.
1. List your top three favorite high school classes. Why were they favorite classes? AP Bio – I’ve always enjoyed STEM but AP Bio taught me more than STEM like time management and work ethic.
Band – my instrument is a part of met and it helped me express myself
Phys and Anat – I already knew I wanted to go into medicine, but Phys and Anat helped me refine my interests
2. Describe the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school? Why was it memorable? My most memorable event in high school was going to state for solo and ensemble on flue because of having all of my hard work payed off.
3. Provide a list of activities in which you were involved during high school and list the years of involvement. What was your favorite and why? Science Olympiad – 4 years, Drama – 4 years, National Honors Society – 2 years; Spanish Club – 3 years, Youth Optimist – 1 year, Prom Committee – 1 year. I enjoyed Science Olympiad the most because it is where I found my friends.
4. What are your plans for this summer after graduation? Summer job? This summer I plan on staying safe while still hanging out with my friends and family before I move on to a new chapter in my life.
5. Are you planning to attend college or technical school, and if so, where? What will be your major? If you are an undecided major, what are your interests right now? I plan on attending either the University of Minnesota or the University of Wisconsin Madison to study neurology.
Kaylee Hessler

Kaylee Hessler
Kaylee is the daughter of Josh and Larinda Hessler.
1. List your top three favorite high school classes. Why were they favorite classes? Spanish – I like learning about other cultures and their languages. Art – Mrs. S makes learning about art fun! Personal Finance – It’s great to learn about real life things.
2. Describe the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school? Why was it memorable? Covid…need I say more?
3. Provide a list of activities in which you were involved during high school and list the years of involvement. What was your favorite and why? 2017/18 – Volleyball, Winter Dance; 2019/20 – Fall Dance, Winter Cheerleading; 2020/21 – Fall Dance. Winter cheerleading was my favorite because I was able to become closer to many of my friends.
4. What are your plans for this summer after graduation? Summer job? I plan to continue working, hanging out with friends and preparing college.
5. Are you planning to attend college or technical school, and if so, where? What will be your major? If you are an undecided major, what are your interests right now? I plan to attend UW-River Falls majoring in Spanish/Spanish Education.
Jocelyn Wilson

Jocelyn Wilson
Jocelyn is the daughter of Ben and Heidi Wilson.
1. List your top three favorite high school classes. Why were they favorite classes? Sociology because the information is interesting
AP chemistry because they labs are fun
AP biology because the information is interesting.
2. Describe the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school? Why was it memorable? My favorite memory from high school is going to state wrestling for cheer because it was a great experience.
3. Provide a list of activities in which you were involved during high school and list the years of involvement. What was your favorite and why? I was involved in dance (freshman-senior), wrestling cheer (freshman-junior), and track (freshman-junior). Wrestling cheer was my favorite event because of the trips to the wrestling tournaments.
4. What are your plans for this summer after graduation? Summer job? I plan to work as a caregiver for my disabled brother during the summer after graduation and prepare to go to college.
5. Are you planning to attend college or technical school, and if so, where? What will be your major? If you are an undecided major, what are your interests right now? I plan to attend Iowa State University and major in kinesiology.

Mya Lagerstrom

Mya Lagerstrom
Mya is the daughter of Jay and Karen Lagerstrom.
1. List your top three favorite high school classes. Why were they favorite classes? Sociology, Psychology, and AD U.S. History. They were my favorite classes because I found them the most interesting.
2. Describe the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school? Why was it memorable? Being part of teams while playing sports. The memories and bonds will never be lost.
3. Provide a list of activities in which you were involved during high school and list the years of involvement. What was your favorite and why? Volleyball (9, 10, 11, 12), Basketball (9, 10, 11, 12), Softball (10, 12), FCCLA (9, 10), Student Council (9, 10, 11). Basketball was my favorite activity because I love the game.
4. What are your plans for this summer after graduation? Summer job? I plan on working to make money for college.
5. Are you planning to attend college or technical school, and if so, where? What will be your major? If you are an undecided major, what are your interests right now? I plan on attending the University of Wisconsin River Falls, majoring in Secondary Education in Social Science.
Samuel Chich

Samuel Chich
Samuel is the son of James and Darla Chich.
1. List your top three favorite high school classes. Why were they favorite classes? Adv. Algebra because of the critical thinking skills that I learned. Adv. Aviation Science because I enjoyed learning about the history and principals. Ag Power because of the useful skills I learned.
2. Describe the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school? Why was it memorable? One thing that I will remember from high school is the pandemic and doing school from home.
3. Provide a list of activities in which you were involved during high school and list the years of involvement. What was your favorite and why? I was in track my freshman year, I was in Cross Country as a Freshman, sophomore and junior year. I thin that the teams relationship made Cross Country my favorite.
4. What are your plans for this summer after graduation? Summer job? I plan on taking a break this summer before going into Air Force basic training in August.
5. Are you planning to attend college or technical school, and if so, where? What will be your major? If you are an undecided major, what are your interests right now? I plan on going into the Air Force this summer and next year attend an aviation related school.
Jensine Boesl

Jensine Boesl
Jensine is the daughter of Kenneth and Heather Boesl.
1. List your top three favorite high school classes. Why were they favorite classes? Physiology and Anatomy because I think learning about the body is very interesting. Chemistry because of the reasoning and logic that is used for labs. Independent Art because I was able to do anything art related for a project.
2. Describe the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school? Why was it memorable? Freshman year the seniors did a skit for homecoming. For their skit one of my brothers friends dressed up as a cheerleader for a “boxing” match.
3. Provide a list of activities in which you were involved during high school and list the years of involvement. What was your favorite and why? Basketball, softball, volleyball, FCCLA, FFA, and Science Olympiad. I feel that basketball was my favorite because I love the sport but also for the teammates that became friends.
4. What are your plans for this summer after graduation? Summer job? Plan to get a job as a CNA in a nursing home or group home.
5. Are you planning to attend college or technical school, and if so, where? What will be your major? If you are an undecided major, what are your interests right now? I plan to attend Chippewa Valley Technical College for the nursing program.
Ava Olson

Ava Olson
Ava is the daughter of Jamie and Rochelle Olson.
1. List your top three favorite high school classes. Why were they favorite classes? My favorite classes were vet science, studio art and drawing because I enjoyed them and they interest me.
2. Describe the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school? Why was it memorable? My most memorable events in high school were during my senior year. After football games my friends and I would put hot dogs, balloons, plastic wrap, toilet paper on the football players vehicles. Also our senior skip day was fun.

Wrestling manager 9th, 10th, 12th.
4. What are your plans for this summer after graduation? Summer Job? I’m going to spend time with my friends before college begins. I will also have a summer job at Helen’s Home.

Trevor Hollister

Trevor Hollister
Trevor is the son of Troy and Jenna Hollister.
1. List your top three favorite high school classes. Why were they favorite classes? My three favorite classes throughout school were Civics, Vet Science and Phy Ed. Civics was entertaining because the stuff we were learning was relevant and Mr. Engel was a good teacher. Vet Science was fun because learning about farm animal health and tending to the green house was always a fun time. Phy Ed was also one of my favorite classes because playing games and being active is fun.
2. Describe the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school? Why was it memorable? My most memorable high school event was going to state for baseball my sophomore year, it was a ton of fun and I hope to make it back there this year with the team.
3. Provide a list of activities in which you were involved during high school and list the years of involvement. What was your favorite and why? Throughout my high school sports career I played Football Basketball and Baseball out of all of these baseball was by far my favorite. It is my favorite because there is nothing better than playing the best sport with some of your best friends.
4. What are your plans for this summer after graduation? Summer Job?
My plan for the summer is to work, play baseball and eventually attend college in the fall.
