Resident Council was done as a group for the first time in many months on Monday. After discussing any concerns they might have, we did exercises as a group also. We had coffee and treats afterward.
Tuesday was church day, and many watched the Sunday services on Youtube.
In the afternoon, we celebrated the Kentucky Derby race, which was on Saturday, by doing our own version of a horse race. Residents placed their bets (with Monopoly money), then shook dice to see which horse was able to move down the table. The first race was won by the #5 horse, and only Selma had bet on that horse, so she got the whole pot to herself. The second race was won by horse #5 also. Two residents, Cherrie and Selma, had bet on that horse, so they split the pot. Selma had the most money at the end of the game, so she got the prize of a tied blanket with horses on it. Congratulations, Selma! Coffee, lemonade, and cookies followed. If there’s a reader out there that could fill me in on how to determine odds, payouts, etc., I could use a helping hand! We keep it pretty simple here. They had a good time with it. The looks of the horses was just as much a factor in our little race as it is the real ones. Horse #6 was a pinto, and he was picked 10 times out of a possible 22 bets.
Wednesday is once again Bingo day, and everyone gathered in the upstairs lobby. We played for a little over an hour, and then had snacks of cookies, coffee, hot chocolate and lemonade. A good time was had by all. They are liking being able to see others they haven’t seen for some time. Thank you to Dennis and Pam Steies for the donation of candy and to Geraldine Luepke for quarters for Bingo. You guys rock!
Thursday morning started with exercises out in the lobby, with many participants. In the afternoon, Carol went down to Grand Oaks and planted some pansies in pots with the tenants. Pansies will do okay in this cool weather. Still a little early for a lot of things.
Friday was Popcorn day, and the residents worked on some banners for next week for Nursing Home Week. We have a lot of fun things planned for the week, so hope everyone takes part. If you’re coming to visit, remember Tuesday is Patriotic dress up day, and Wednesday is the 50s. Some of you out there must have a poodle skirt?
