This week was Celebrate Your Name Week, as well as Art Week, so we tried to incorporate both of those into our schedule this week.
Monday morning we held Resident Council in residents’ rooms. They expressed any concerns they may be having, and I in turn relate those problems to the correct department head, who addresses the issue with his or her employees.
We celebrated Art Week by coloring some Easter Egg sun catchers to hang in windows. Holy Cross brought some in last year, and I was amazed how the colors showed through when put them on a window, even though the crayons were put on regular white paper. Missy gave me the info on how to do it. They turned out very pretty. We had help from some of the staff also. I think everyone here enjoys a little session of coloring now and then. It’s very relaxing.
Carol also did an art project with the Havenwood tenants on Tuesday. They decorated up little flower pots and put succulents in them. They look very real! They also decorated some bottles for St. Patty’s Day.
Church on Youtube was put on for many residents on Tuesday morning. Pastor Jonathan was also here this week to visit members of his congregation. Just a reminder to our Pastors that visiting is available downstairs at this time, with an appointment, and as of yesterday, visitors who can show they have been vaccinated, and 14 days have passed since their shot, may visit upstairs by appointment, provided the resident has received their vaccine also.
We held Care Conferences on Tuesday morning, as some of the staff is involved in training for a new charting system.
Jen was back in full swing this week with the beauty shop. She’s getting everybody spiffed up. The ladies look beautiful!
Wednesday and Thursday afternoon we played Bingo in the households. Everyone had a great time, as usual. They should all be gaining a little weight with the candy bars they’ve been enjoying from Family Dollar. They also had delicious Girl Scout cookies that were donated for snacks afterwards. Holy Cross also donated the quarters for Bingo. The residents truly appreciate it, and love their Bingo.
Barry Milune donated a bunch of DVDs. Looked like movies the residents will love!
Since this was Celebrate Your Name Week, Friday afternoon was spent reading the meanings and origins of their names, which was fun to see, as many of their character traits were right on. It was also fun to learn that many of them were named after a Grandma, Aunt, etc. It’s interesting how many of the old names are coming back in popularity.
We also had a lot of trivia questions about names, which proved to be rather difficult. For instance, did you know that Santa’s brother’s name is Bells Nichols? Or that Mother Goose’s real name is Elizabeth Goose? It was a lot of fun, even if it was difficult.
We are all very excited and encouraged by the new CDC recommendations. We just hope things continue to improve.
Everyone have a safe week and see you next time.
