Glenhaven News
Sept. 5-11
Ken Carlson celebrated his birthday on Saturday with window visits from his family, and treated the residents to mini cupcakes. Happy Birthday, Ken, and we appreciate the treats!
The Labor Day weekend started out beautiful, but what a change on Monday morning, right? It was pretty chilly and has remained so all week. It was very frosty on Thursday morning. I noticed that the leaves of the squash and pumpkin plants at my place are all black and wilted. It sounds like this next week will be more back to normal temps, thank goodness!
We made one last picking of tomatoes on Tuesday, and in the morning we had church on YouTube for many of the residents. I got a call from Pastor Jonathan, who is working on plans to visit and perhaps put his services on YouTube again. Residents would love it.
We welcome Carol Myers to the activity department today. I can already tell she will be a great asset to Glenhaven.
The ladies had their beauty shop day on Wednesday morning, and in the afternoon we played Bingo in E household. Willard and Bill kept us entertained, as usual. It was a good time. Cookies and coffee were enjoyed following the game.
Carol went around and did exercises with several of the residents on Thursday morning, and we also had care conferences. Manicures were on the agenda for the afternoon, so several ladies got a nail job.
This entire week has also been busy with getting people registered to vote and getting the requests and necessary information in for absentee ballots. It involved several calls to the City Hall. I’m sure they’ll be glad when the election is over.
Popcorn day was Friday, as well as taking care of the flowers and plants inside and out and cleaning the aviary. Despite the nippy weather, we had some outside visitors come to visit family members. We are glad people are taking the opportunity to see their family members. Next week the weather should be much nicer for a visit. Just give Ashley a call and she will set you up with a time, and we will have someone to assist your family member to and from your visit.
Friday was also a day of remembrance for the nearly 3000 people who lost their lives in New York City’s bombing of the World Trade Center and other buildings on Sept. 11th, 2001. Take a moment to remember them in your prayers.
Until next time, keep warm and healthy!
HAVENWOOD TIDBITS
Brrrr. We’re getting that fall feeling after a week of 60° temperatures.
We’re excited to report our morning glory plant blossomed. We were blessed with one flower so we’re glad we never gave up on it.
Monday, we had a surprise bingo session. Quarters were the prize and most of us won a dollar. So you can see it paid off.
Tuesday, Grand Oaks (the middle section of the complex) women got their hair done. Tuesdays the beautician does the Grand Oaks folks and Thursdays she does Havenwood people. I’m thinking of getting a perm myself!
On Wednesday, we had our weekly trivia contest. This week’s trivia was on a variety of things. We learned that Asia is the continent with the 100 highest mountains in the world.
We found out that golf was invented in Scotland.
Apparently there’s a heart shaped coral reef in (you guessed it) Australia! Queen Elizabeth resides in Buckingham Palace, but now she’s quarantined in Windsor Castle, and the Statue of Liberty was given to us by France.
The nice part about trivia time is we all get a treat just for showing up. What a deal!
Thursday, the friendly beautician came and I got my much needed perm. Other ladies were pleased to see her too.
Friday is our popcorn day. Doris Berends from Glenhaven brings down a bucket of popcorn for us. That is a welcome commodity. Thank you Doris!
Friday is also the day the Baking club concocts up a tasty treat for 3:00 coffee. They never disappoint.
That wraps it up for this week and remember stay warm!
