This week a little history of the Havenwood unit first. It was built by a partnership with the nursing home and WestCAP. It first opened in the summer 2008. After we’ve experienced a few nice days in August we experienced some hotter days this week. So we hurried into our air conditioned rooms and enjoyed the days there.
Wednesday is our Trivia Day so this week’s topic was questions on the Olympic Games. They began in ancient Greece and continue today. It was a fun discussion and some even got a few questions right!
Our special treat this week was a big bowl of ice cream, a good choice in lieu of the heat.
In 1938, J.F. McCullogh invented the first soft serve ice cream. He later named it Dairy Queen. It takes twelve pounds of whole milk to make one gallon of ice cream. In 1927 the ice cream song (I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream) debuted.
In the early 1800’s American thought that eating cold food was unhealthy and bad for digestion.
Do you know what country consumes the most ice cream per capita? It’s the New Zealanders who eat 7.5 gallons per person per year.
In 2014 in Cedarburg, Wisconsin a scoop of ice cream weighing an average of 3,010 pounds set a world record. Only one scoop, please.
It also takes an average of 50 licks to eat a single scoop of ice cream. I know, because I counted!
One more important fact. The ice cream cone is the official state dessert in Missouri. Missouri, here I come!
We had our weekly game of doorway bingo with treats or quarters for prizes. Also the baking club wrapped the week up by making a delicious treat for 3:00 coffee.
Stay cool, everyone.
