Glenhaven News
May 31 – June 5
What a week this has been, right? We certainly hope this world gets some resemblance to normalcy in the near future!
We here at Glenhaven are doing fine. No Corona virus cases, thankfully. We continue to have residents in their rooms, and if they come out they need to wear a mask. Staff also wear masks all day long, except lunch, of course. Everyone gets their temperatures taken each day.
We spent some time outside this week, as the weather was nice. A little too warm some of the time, but still good to get out, even for a short time. Several residents enjoyed church services on Youtube on Monday and Tuesday. Polka Joe’s is also proving to be a Youtube favorite.
Resident Council was also held on Tuesday. Since we can’t get together as a group, this writer went around to the rooms of our usual participants and asked if they were having any concerns. After getting information from the residents, it is shared with the department heads so they can act on any concerns.
Our in-house beauty shop was busy again on Wednesday curling hair for the ladies. We played doorway Bingo in the afternoon.
Thursday was National Cheese Day, so after care conferences and manicures, we had various types of cheese, crackers, and cheese curds. This is Dairy Month, so we will be doing some dairy treats each week. The last week of the month we are serving ice cream on top of Indian Pudding. We’ve never tried making it before, so it should be interesting. The 27th is a Saturday, which is the actual National Indian Pudding Day. We looked up some recipes on the internet, and it is a baked pudding with cinnamon, ginger, etc., and cornmeal and milk. You serve it warm with ice cream on top. If anyone out there has made it and has a good recipe to share, give us a call.
Friday was popcorn day, residents’ favorite day of the week. The aviary also got a good cleaning, as our aviary lady is unable to come in. The birdies all love to take a bath when the new water is put in.
In the afternoon, since it was National Donut Day, we made homemade donuts, using a recipe from Eleanor Heutmaker. We served them out in the courtyard to several residents who were out enjoying the beautiful weather, then went around to everyone inside. They were a hit! We’ll have to make them more often.
Sending everyone stay well wishes!
