Residents enjoyed movies from the library on Saturday afternoon.
Sunday morning there was Catholic Communion.
Monday was our next holiday, President’s Day. We had exercises in the morning, and in the afternoon, we played some Presidential Trivia, which proved to be quite interesting. We found that many of the residents could identify the older presidents better than the more modern ones. We discussed how Dolly Madison ice cream got its’ name, and the names of the first ladies, which proved to be a little more challenging. Also challenging were the questions about whose picture was on money.
After taxing their brains, the residents enjoyed coffee and a cherry dessert to honor George Washington and the chopping down of the cherry tree.
Pastor Dahm of Forest Immanuel was here on Tuesday morning for church, and gave a very good sermon, according to the residents. In the afternoon a good group gathered in the lobby area to play a game of shuffleboard, a game they all seem to enjoy. We had 13 players. We awarded ribbons to the top three scores which were Billy Swenson, Selma Sloth and Bev Thompson. There was only 10 points difference between each of the top three. Good job, everyone!
Wednesday morning found the beauty shop in full swing. Jen also stayed in the afternoon and came upstairs to give haircuts. Afternoon was Bingo time, which was hosted by the activity department this week. Thanks to Dennis and Megan for helping out. Bingo, as always, was followed by coffee and cookies.
Thursday afternoon we gathered in the lobby for crossword puzzles. We did two puzzles, which I tell the residents are much too easy for them, as they as very quick at answering. There are always a couple that may stump them for a while, but they always figure them out. We have some smart cookies living here.
Friday was popcorn day in the morning, and in the afternoon, we played a game of Mexican Train. This game is a challenging one, but I think with a little more practice everyone will catch on. Bobbie Berends was down visiting, so she helped us out for a while. We enjoyed snacks afterwards.
Visitors this week were: Doris Herdahl was visited by Doug & Linda Herdahl, Margie Wiseman, Greg, Andy, Evan, Jabin, Regan and Gavin Friberg; Teresa Miller was visited by Bob Miller, Tom & Mary Miller, Runt Miller, Derek & Kennedy Miller; Paula Standaert was visited by Mary, Christine and Mel; Anna Sande was visited by Lynette Pank; and the Sunnyside Shamrocks 4-H Club surprised residents with a visit and gift of tied fleece blankets. Great community service project, kids! It’s much appreciated.
