Sunday was busy with Catholic Communion in the morning, and the Menonite Singers in the evening. They do an awesome job.
On Monday afternoon Carol Schmidt was here with her Papillion dogs to entertain. She has 5 of them at present, and brought four with her. They kept her very busy, especially the new puppy. They do various tricks such as playing dead when Carol says bang, rolling over, fetching, and one my favorites is when Carol sneezes, the dog will bring her a Kleenex. They are sure cute little buggers! We also announced the winners of our Ground Hog Shadow guessing contest. The winner for the residents was Paula Standaert with 11 correct, and Tricia Quinn and Jill Darwin tied for the staff with 15 correct. Good job, ladies!
Holy Cross was here for church on Tuesday morning, and in the afternoon, we played some Valentine trivia, which was quite interesting. I believe the part the residents enjoyed the most was guessing the partner to some famous people. We also did some trivia about chocolate. Did you know that the average American consumes 12 pounds of chocolate a year? But we have a long way to go to catch up with the Swiss who eat almost twice as much-22 pounds per year. I do hear that Swiss chocolate is the best, so no wonder.
Wednesday morning was beauty shop with Jen, as well as Bible Study with Pastor Jonathan from Holy Cross. Holy Cross also hosted Bingo on Wednesday afternoon, and the JAM kids came to bring Valentines and do some singing for the residents after school. The kids were great! Thanks to all our Holy Cross Bingo helpers-Linda, Peggy, Sue, and Missy, the JAM kids and their teachers, and to Rita Mollers for doing manicures and also helping with Bingo. You are all much appreciated!
The Little Acorns came for their weekly visit on Thursday, and played bean bags with the residents. The high score on bean bags was Bev Thompson. Congratulations, Bev! The kids also sang some songs for the residents after bean bags.
The baking club was busy on Thursday afternoon making treats for Valentine’s Day. They made brownies with Valentine sprinkles on top, and served them with chip and mint ice cream.
Friday was a very busy day with popcorn and Catholic Mass on Friday morning. At noon, we had a Sweetheart’s Dinner for all of our married people and their sweethearts. We had nine couples who celebrated together. It was great to see so many there.
Valentine’s afternoon we had music with Steve Szydel, who was awesome, especially since he sang a lot of Elvis tunes. We had the crowning of our new Glenhaven King and Queen part way through the singing, and then finished with our treats while Steve sang some more. Our new Queen is Paula Standaert, and our King is Willard Tronrud. Looking forward to having you in the Rustic Lore Parade. Family Dollar in Glenwood City had a balloon promotion for Valentine’s Day and they delivered 86 ballons to the Glenhaven Campus for our residents. They were so beautiful to have around the buildings. It was a fun week all around!
Miss Glenwood City, Halle Dopkins, and her Princess, Tabby Nadeau, came and helped pass out treats and got their pictures with our new royalty.
