GLENWOOD CITY—The City Council learned Monday evening that the city has been awarded a ninety percent grant for the construction of a safe room on the St. Croix County Fairgrounds on the west side of the community.
In a letter from the State of Wisconsin Emergency Management “informing the City that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has approved a project grant for the City in the amount of $582,550. Through this office,” the letter stated, “The Federal Emergency Management Agency provides 90 percent of the funding or $524,295.00 and the remaining $58,255.00 is the City’s required 10 percent local match.”
Over the past several years the City and the St. Croix County Fair Board have discussed the need for a shelter should a storm or tornado involve the fairgrounds area.
During the Council meeting, Mayor John Larson noted to the other members of the Council about how the City would come up with their share of the project saying that he would need to talk to St. Croix County and the Fair Board.
There was no discussion about the time line for the completion of the project, but the state letter stated that the “expected completion date is February 28, 2022.”
