The Menomonie Optimist Club provides the Boyceville High School teaching staff with the opportunity to recognize the achievements and efforts of an outstanding senior student. The selected student is then recognized as the Menomonie Optimist Youth of the Month.
Noelle Wheeldon was selected to represent Boyceville High School as Youth of the Month for November. Noelle is the daughter of Laurie and Joseph Wheeldon, of Boyceville.
The program statement from the Menomonie Optimist Club describes the qualities and attributes that made Noelle a great choice.
“The purpose of the Optimist Club is to develop optimism as a philosophy of life: to promote an active interest in good government and civic affairs, to aid and encourage the development of youth, in the belief that the giving of one’s self in service to others will advance the well-being of man, his community, and the world.”
To recognize her accomplishments there was an Awards Banquet held in Menomonie on November 20th. Noelle, her parents and Boyceville High School Choir Teacher, Mr. Ben Simmerman attended the Awards Banquet. Mr. Simmerman had the opportunity to introduce Noelle and talk about her achievements, both in school and our community. Noelle has been a valuable leader, supportive team member and a positive role model for her peers. Every day she makes a significant positive contribution to our school culture and her efforts are noticed not only by staff but students as well. She has involved herself in academics, her community and volunteerism. Noelle has been extensively involved with her academic achievements here at school. Her outstanding focus on academics has earned her a membership in the Boyceville High School National Honor Society. She is also an active member of the Science Olympiad team. In Science Olympiad, Noelle has focused on Earth Science events like Dynamic Planet and Geological Mapping. She has earned 95 medals in Science Olympiad and 17 of them are at the State Level. Noelle also volunteers at the Boyceville Regional Science Olympiad Tournament as an event supervisor. Her talents also reach in to the performing arts. Noelle has played a large leadership role in the Boyceville High School Drama productions. She has been a dedicated member all four years of high school. Her Junior year, she played the role of Cat in the Hat for “Seussical the Musical” and this year her senior musical performance will be in “Beauty and the Beast” where she will play the beloved character Lumiere. Noelle has also taken the time to give back to her community through volunteerism. She is a member of the church choir and volunteers as a server at St. Joseph’s Church, in Menomonie. Noelle finds a way to balance school, Science Olympiad, drama performances, family and volunteering – and we are all thankful for her efforts. Her intrinsic strength of character made her an excellent recipient for the Optimist Club Youth of the Month honor. Congratulations and good luck on your future endeavors Noelle!
