Glenhaven News
July 20-26
Our week started off with music by John Lynch on Saturday. Residents are really enjoying his music.
Grace Baptist Church services were held on Sunday afternoon, and Catholic Communion was in the morning.
On Monday, the baking club made a raspberry dessert for the monthly birthday party which was held on Tuesday. Jane and Friends were joined by Jane’s brother Chuck and her niece Sandy. They sounded terrific. Everyone seemed to enjoy the dessert which is a recipe of Bernice Drinkman’s from many years ago. We sang Happy Birthday to seven residents this month-Bev Johnson, Bev Thompson, Teresa Miller, Don Hahn, Betty Steies, JoAnne Krier and Lloyd Holten. Belated “Happy Birthday” to you all, and to our singers who also celebrated some birthdays this month!
Our garden is flourishing, as we picked beans and cucumbers and cleaned them for the kitchen. Residents thought they tasted great. Now if we could keep the deer from sampling, it would be terrific!
St. John’s hosted Bingo on Wednesday. Thanks to our helpers Carol McCarthy and Mary Mahoney.
The Little Acorns were up for their visit on Thursday morning. We played some horse shoes and basketball out in the courtyard. The kids seemed to have just as much fun being nature hunters, picking up sticks and various others items during their visit to share with the residents.
Friday was popcorn day, and in the afternoon, some of residents, with JoAnne and John Schroeder’s help, cleaned a big bowl of green beans, which will be taken to the kitchen for residents to enjoy for a meal. We also picked quite a few cucumbers, and it was decided that we will make pickles out of this batch. OK Hedlund’s recipe is the one everyone raves about. They should be ready to eat in a couple of weeks.
Thanks to all our volunteers this week!
