BOYCEVILLE — The Boyce-ville High School class of 2018 has 22 honor students. Co-Valedictorians Hayley Bird and Kylie Krueger and salutatorian Alexis Meixner are featured in a separate story. Below are the 19 other honor students.

Haley is the daughter of Greg and Heidi Wold.

• List the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school. The most memorable events were all the times I was able to travel for my extracurricular activities. I made a lot of lovely memories with some truly amazing people on these trips.

• List your favorite high school classes. Sociology, AP Psychology, and Psychology. These classes were my favorites because they helped me gain new perspectives.

• What activities were you involved in during high school? Science Olympiad 2011-2018, Academic Decathlon 2016-2017 and 2017-2018, Volleyball 2014-2018, Track 2014-2018, Spanish Club 2014-2018, Student Council 2014-2018, Student Government (VP) 2014-2018, Drama Club 2014-2018, Marching Band 2014-2017, Red Cross Blood Drive 2014-2018.

• What are your plans after graduation? I am attending the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point to double major in Social Work and Psychology. This summer, I hope to intern at the Dunn County Department of Human Services, while working two jobs.

• List the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school. The benefits of extracurricular activities. I got to go to places like Ohio, Milwaukee, Madison and Medford for Science Olympiad and Visual Arts Classics. I also am able to go to Iowa for Lakeside Lab twice a year.

• List your favorite high school classes. Studio Art because it allows me to create art at my own pace and on my own. Art is a part of me. I also enjoy math classes and my AP Environmental Science Class. They are both enjoyable and challenging.

• What activities were you involved in during high school? Science Olympiad 2014-2018, Visual Arts Classic 2014-2018, Academic Decathalon 2014-2015, Volunteering for Red Cross 2014-2018, Lakeside Lab 2016-2018, AP Environmental Bio Volunteer program 2017-2018, helping/donating to food drives 2014-2018.

• What are your plans after graduation? I plan to attend MCAD; Minneapolis College of Art and Design. I will be majoring in Illustration. Before college I will continue working at Imark Molding during the summer.

• List the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school. From learning that pineapples don’t grow on trees, to having a muddy slip n slide after winning the homecoming game, to debating whether water is wet; high school in Boyceville, Wisconsin will not be forgotten.

• List your favorite high school classes. Contemporary American History – I learned how to cite sources and papers. Sociology – I learned about myself and others while also developing my writing skills. AP Bio – I learned pineapples don’t grow on trees and other amazing phenomena. AP Physics – discussions about the likelihood of time travel and the physics of everyday life.

• What activities were you involved in during high school? Science Olympiad (9-12), Wrestling (9-12), Football (9-12), Visual Arts Classic (12)

• What are your plans after graduation? I plan to attend Stanford University in Palo Alto, California. At this time I plan to major in geology.

Garrett is the son of Harry and Kathy Joles.

• List the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school. The most memorable event that happened to me in high school would be winning my first state championship my junior year, right after watching two of my best friends and teammates win their own state titles just moments before. That was the most memorable experience I’ve ever had and it will be hard to top!

• List your favorite high school classes. My favorite high school classes were AP Bio, AP Environmental, Phys and Anat, Civics, and Engineering. These were my favorite classes because they either taught me the most or because I was able to be with my best friends.

• What activities were you involved in during high school? I was in wrestling for 4 years (2015-2018), National Honors Society my junior (2017) and Senior (2018) year, FCA my senior year, and Student Council for 2 years – Jr. and Sr. year.

• What are your plans after graduation? I plan to go to the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities to continue my athletic career, while obtaining a degree in Mechanical Engineering. This summer I plan to go on road trips with my friends and family, as well as train for national wrestling tournaments this summer. I will also be working as a clinitiian for a wrestling academy in Eau Claire. This will be a good side job for me, and will give me a chance to give back to the sport of wrestling.

• List the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school. My most memorable event in high school was when I hit my first home run at my softball game against Glenwood, junior year.

• List your favorite high school classes. 1. Biology – I like biology because it is the study of life. I love learning how plants and animals survive. Nature is a really interesting subject to me and I enjoy studying flowers and trees. 2. Anat and Phys – I love learning how the human body works, and what we need to do to keep our bodies healthy.

• What activities were you involved in during high school? Volleyball – freshman year. Softball – all four years. WIHA Horse Team – sophomore, junior and senior year. Trinity Lutheran Church Youth Group – all four years. Polk County 4H Horse Club – 9th, 10th. Pine Ridge, South Dakota Mission Trip – 10th.

• What are your plans after graduation? I plan to attend UW Eau Claire for nursing. After obtaining my Bachelors of Science in Nursing, I plan to transfer to UW La Crosse to get my Masters of Science in Nursing. From there I will become a certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist.

Marissa is the daughter of Todd Dormanen and Joanna Dormanen.

• List the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school. One of my best memories in High School would have to be in my sophomore softball season. Our team made it to the Regional finals and although I was out due to injury, it was a great team experience!

• List your favorite high school classes. Anatomy and Physiology because my interest is in learning about the human body and the labs are fun. Foods class was also fun because we got to eat whatever we made, as long as it was actually edible and we didn’t screw up the recipe!

• What activities were you involved in during high school? FCCLA for 4 yrs., Science Olympiad – 3 yrs., Yearbook – 4 yrs., Drama – 1 yr., National Honor Society – 2 yrs., Visual Arts Classic – 1 yr., Cross Country – 4 yrs., Basketball – 4 yrs., Softball – 4 yrs.

• What are your plans after graduation? After graduation I will be working during the summer and traveling to Italy. In the fall I will be attending the University of Wisconsin La-Crosse and majoring in Exercise and Sports Science.

• List your favorite high school classes. AP Physics: It was challenging; AP Environmental Science: Fun topics; Engineering: Fun projects; Contemporary American History: Interesting topics.

• What activities were you involved in during high school? Cross Country 2014-2017; Track and Field 2015-2018; Science Olympiad 2014-2018; Drama 2016-2018.

• What are your plans after graduation? I plan on working all summer, outside, and in the fall I will be attending Wichita State University for Aerospace Engineering.

• List the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school. My most memorable event was traveling to state Science Olympiad with my friends.

• List your favorite high school classes. My favorite high school class was electronics. It was unique and extremely entertaining.

• What activities were you involved in during high school? Cross Country – freshman, sophomore, junior, senior. Track – junior, senior. Baseball – freshman, sophomore, Science Olympiad – freshman, sophomore, junior, senior, Quiz Bowl – senior.

• What are your plans after graduation? I plan on attending the University of Minnesota and majoring in engineering.

Rylie is the daughter of Lance and Becky Andrews.

• List the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school. If I had to think back on a single moment or memory, it would be impossible. I have made extraordinary memories with several individuals in numerous aspects throughout high school. It was always fun to attend our three-school quiz-bowl meets, gather as a class to form skits for homecoming, and playing powderpuff football. Our class has always had fun, and I am glad I have been given the chance to be apart of this group. I enjoyed supporting my classmates at sporting events, school plays, and alongside myself as teammates in a few different occasions.

• List your favorite high school classes. My favorite courses surround the same three teachers, (Mr. Engel, Mr. Hamm, and Mrs. Willi) as they always challenge me to think outside the use of the internet. I am grateful to have been given the opportunities to engage in their classes, as I feel better prepared for college. Contemporary American History sparked numerous interests and it was hard to not be excited to dig deeper into the topics. Civics supplied me with new world perspectives and a better grasp on our government system, as well as another way to engage in discussion with others on world issues. My science courses have always been intriguing, since I will be entering a science-related field in the near future. Even though they have been fast-paced and rigorous courses, I believe they will benefit me in the long run.

• What are your plans after graduation? During the Summer of 2018 I plan to continue to work at Arby’s in Menomonie; in the Fall of 2018, I will be attending South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, majoring in Chemical Engineering. My future aspirations are to work in the field of research and development of new medications and/or prosthetics. There are currently millions of patients and other individuals who are in need worldwide of new generations of medications and increased efficiencies. I would like to be a part of assisting in improving these people’s situations. I am certain I will enjoy my new surroundings, while getting to meet and collaborate with many other extraordinary individuals traveling down the same path as myself. I plan to earn my Bachelor of Science Degree, while participating in trips abroad and internships. Upon obtaining my degree, I will hope to have developed ties within companies during prior internships to help land a job in the Chemical Engineering field, surrounding my interests in the research and development of medications and/or prosthetics.

• List the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school. I was at Stout this year for the mile and while I was running I heard a voice that I recognized when I was a freshman at St. Croix Central. It was my teammate and “older brother” Jordan Bringgold. We also get after each other, because we expect a lot from each other.

• List your favorite high school classes. Phy Ed: It helps me to stay in shape for track and cross country. Also, I can play hardball as a defender in a style that is respectable. Fast, Physical, and scrappy defense.

• What activities were you involved in during high school? 2014-15 School Year: Track, football, basketball. 2015-16 School Year: Track, cross country. 2016-17 School Year: Track, cross country, Science Olympiad, and NHS. 2017-18 School Year: Track, cross country, and NHS.

• What are your plans after graduation? WITC – New Richmond online for accounting assistant.

• List the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school. The Science Olympiad Tournaments, I was able to do several events of several fields of science.

• List your favorite high school classes. Mr. Hamm’s classes because I was able commit myself to Science and Math.

• What activities were you involved in during high school? Science Olympiad – 6th grade to senior year; Track – senior year; Cross Country – sophomore-senior year.

• What are your plans after graduation? I plan to go to the University of Minnesota Duluth to pursue a degree in mechanical engineering.

Nick is the son of Jason and Rebecca Martin.

• List the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school. My favorite memories of high school have to be the times that I got pulled out of class to work on the cars of teachers, students, or someone who broke down in the school parking lot. Going to school I would have never thought that’s what I would be doing, but it has happened a lot during my times at Boyceville.

• List your favorite high school classes. My favorite classes were the shop classes like ag power, welding, and wood working. They were my favorite because they were things that I loved to do every day. I work at a fabrication shop so I weld constantly and on my personal time I always work on cars for myself, to sell, and others.

• What activities were you involved in during high school? I wasn’t really involved in much during high school. I was a part of FFA since my sophomore year only because I was in ag classes. I was always busy through high school with work that I never really had time to get involved in other activities.

• What are your plans after graduation? I graduated in January and since then I have been doing classes online for business management through CVTC. I also work full time at lndianhead Truck Equipment so that I am able to pay cash for college without student loans. So far it has been going great.

• List the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school. My most memorable events was being able to travel to Washington D.C. my junior year, where I lobbied in Congress for “Pheasants Forever”.

• List your favorite high school classes. History and Shop classes, because I enjoy learning about the past and working with my hands to design, build, and fix things.

• What activities were you involved in during high school? FFA (9-12), baseball (9-12), Pheasants Forever (9-12), Boyceville Trap Club (9-12).

• What are your plans after graduation? After high school I will be attending CVTC with a major in Criminal Justice.

• List the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school. My most memorable event was my senior year homecoming, I participated in many events, and we won the close football game against our rivals from Colfax. We played the best football we’ve played all year.

• List your favorite high school classes. Civics – was a great insight on American government. Personal finance – learned how to handle/invest money. Physical Science – learned how the world works and had fun projects.

• What activities were you involved in during high school? Basketball – 4 years, Baseball – 4 years, Football – 4 years, FFA – 4 years, National Honors Society – 2 years, Quiz Bowl – 1 year, All Conference Choir Musical – 2 years.

• What are your plans after graduation? I plan on attending Winona State University and obtain a business administration degree.

• List the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school. Participating in extra curriculars such as Cross Country, Track and Science Olympiad have been the most memorable for me due to the travelling and the teammates that I had.

• List your favorite high school classes. Sociology and Psychology are two of my favorite classes because they applied to real life situations and my future career. Thanks to Mrs. Willi, I also found great interest in AP Biology and Physiology and Anatomy.

• What activities were you involved in during high school? Cross Country (2015-2018), Track (2015-2018), Science Olympiad (2014-2018), Academic Decathalon (2014 and 2016), Quizbowl (2015-2018).

• What are your plans after graduation? After graduation I plan to attend UW-Madison to major in Psychology. Over the summer I will be working with my dad at Anchor Marine, working at Dunhams and going on a Youth Gathering Church trip to Houston, Texas.

• List the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school. My 2nd and last year in CC, the conference meet at Whitetail Golf Course, Colfax. I had strange not-so-good races before that but this race I was “worked” (my dad’s terminology) and it was the best race of the season. My dad’s face shined and he was so happy for me!. Also, A meet at Colfax/Whitetail Golf Course) I was the first runner for the first 1000 m. It was so cool and funny, I think people were confused.

• List your favorite high school classes. Biology – simple science with lots of nature things. Ag Orientation – many small units on everything agriculture. Lots of field trips and handy on experiences. Civics – finally understand gov’t! History Adv. Algebra – Love algebra, more challenging than Algebra I. AP Environmental – interesting science, hands on activities, helping community. Spanish – Like learning about the culture and a new language.

• What activities were you involved in during high school? Track & Field (2015-2018), Cross Country (2016-2017), National Honor Society (2016-2018), FFA (2014-15, 2016-17), Visual Arts Classic (2016-2018), Homecoming Court (2017), Living Water International Mission Trip (2017), Boyceville Summer Track and Field Camp (2014-2017), WE Service Project (2017-18), 6th-8th grade Career Fair (2018).

• What are your plans after graduation? I will be attending UW River Falls for Agriculture Studies. I will continue my job cashiering at Marketplace Foods through the summer. I hope to get an on-campus job while I in school at UW-RF.

• List the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school. My favorite memories from high school were those made in the Boyceville Drama Program, and the Science Olympiad.

• List your favorite high school classes. AP Environmental Science because we do a lot of hands on learning, and are taught about the importance of keeping our planet safe.

• What activities were you involved in during high school? Science Olympiad 6 years, Drama 3 years, Cross Country 5 years.

• What are your plans after graduation? During the summer I plan to work at 3M and then attend Stout in the fall.

Mariah is the daughter of Ray and Teresa Drury.

• List the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school. Being able to go on a European tour with over 300 other dedicated musicians  through the Wisconsin Ambassadors of Music.

• List your favorite high school classes. Gym was my favorite class because it allowed me to become closer to my classmates and there was many inside jokes that were created.

• What activities were you involved in during high school? Volleyball – 4 years, student council – 4 years, Student government – 4 years, Science Olympiad – 4 years, Quiz Bowl – 4 years, Bowling – 2 years, Volleyball coach – 2 years, band – 4 years, Wisconsin Ambassadors of Music European tour – 2016.

• What are your plans after graduation? I plan to travel this summer while living out of my van. This fall I plan to attend UW-Stout and major in Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management.

Mariah is the daughter of Laurey and Daniel Schlottman.

• List the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school. I had great memories with friends during track meet last year playing cards with then. The bus rides for Science Olympiad are always crazy and we have good laughs. Even during classes when we mess around and tell jokes, we all get a good laugh. Just being able to be and see my friends every day at school.

• List your favorite high school classes. AP Bio and Bio, because it was interesting to learn how living organisms work. Sociology, because I got to see why things kind of happen for a reason. Phis and Anat, learning the different parts of the body and how they worked was interesting. Vet science, got to learn about different animals.

• What activities were you involved in during high school? Volleyball (4 years), FFA (2 years), Track (1 year), Science Olympiad (4 years), Quiz Bowl (1 year).

• What are your plans after graduation? After high school I plan to have a summer job then attend at Rochester Technical College to become a vet tech.
