Winter weather wreaks havoc on sports schedules

The winter storm that blanketed the area with several inches last Friday and Saturday, December 16 and 17, and left subzero temperatures in its wake, caused the postponement or cancellation of several high school and middle school extra-curriculars and sporting contests.

Most of the basketball games and wrestling matches that had been slated for Dunn-St. Croix conference schools on those two days were either postponed or cancelled.

Locally, the Colfax versus Elk Mound girls’ basketball showdown set for the Mounders home court this past Friday, December 16 was postponed as were the Elk Mound boys’ junior varsity basketball game at Eau Claire Memorial and the c-team contest at Baldwin-Woodville.

The Colfax-Elk Mound girls’ basketball game has been rescheduled for January 17, 2017 in Elk Mound. The junior varsity boys’ game will be held on January 30 but the c-team game has yet to be rescheduled.

Both the Glenwood City and Boyceville girls’ junior varsity and varsity basketball games set for Friday, December 16 were postponed while the tournaments for the Hilltoppers’ and Bulldogs’ wrestling squads were cancelled.

The Lady Toppers basketball teams were set to host Durand on December 16 but the contests (JV and varsity) have been moved to January 16, 2015 in Glenwood City.

Meanwhile, the Boyceville girls will travel to Plum City for a makeup with the Plum City/Elmwood Wolves on February 17, 2017.

Boyceville’s Saturday date at the Osceola Wrestling Duals was cancelled as was Glenwood City’s trip to Eagan, MN for an individual wrestling tournament.

Glenwood City head wrestling coach Shane Strong noted that the Toppers may replace the Minnesota tournament with another at Ladysmith on January 14, 2017.
