Area track teams compete in B-W Invitational
BALDWIN — The Glenwood City and Boyceville track and field squads found both team and individual success at the Baldwin-Woodville Invitational held Tuesday, April 12.
The Hilltoppers and Bulldogs girls’ teams finished in a fifth-place tie with 75 points. On the boys’ side, Glenwood City finished seventh with 59 points while Boyceville took ninth with 45 points.
The Hayward girls finished atop the 11-team meet with 131 points with Ellsworth second at 100 and host Baldwin-Woodville was third with 95 points.
Ellsworth won the boys race with 152 points to easily outdistance host and runner-up Baldwin-Woodville which garnered 82 points. Eau Claire Regis was third.
Cassie Malean captured Boyceville’s only win with a first-place effort in the high jump. The junior also placed second in the long jump and was fifth in the 100 meters.
The Hilltoppers won a trio of firsts – all on the girls’ side.
The 4 x 400 meter relay team of senior Maya Petersen and sophomores Megan Speiser, Elizabeth Wink and Makayla O’Brien captured first with a time of 4:46.19.
Wink also captured an individual gold with a win in the 400 meter to join senior Morgan Kadinger, who won the 800 meters.
Glenwood City
The Glenwood City girls placed high in all four relay events led by the top-place finish of the 4 x 400 meter squad. The 4 x 800 meter team was second, the 4 x 100 meter quartet took third and the 4 x 200 meter team was fifth.
Elizabeth Wink ran to victory in the 400 meter with a time of 1:08.01.
Kadinger’s winning time in the 800 meters was 2:39.90. She also finished in a five-way tie for fourth in the high jump after clearing 4’ 4”.
Senior Gabby Peterson finished fourth in both the 100 and 200 meter sprint events while fellow senior Rachel Klatt was fourth in the shot put and seventh in the discus.
Sophomores Jacob Kopacz and Ethan Kahler each earned a second and third for the Topper boys.
Kopacz finished second in the 200 meters (:24.29) and third in the 100 meters (:12.15).
Meanwhile, Kahler’s place finishes came in the hurdling events. He ran a :18.50 to take second in the 110 meter highs and was third in the 300 meter intermediates with a :48.40.
Sophomore Darian Multhauf placed fourth in the 100 meters.
Jacob Nelson, yet another sophomore, placed in three events as he finished fifth in the 100 meters, sixth in the long jump and seventh in the 200 meters.
Boyceville
Cassie Malean had a good day in Baldwin. The junior was first in the high jump with a best of 4’ 10”, jumped 14’ 9.75” to place second in the long jump and ran for a fifth-place finish in the 100 meters (:14.32).
Fellow juniors Tyler Krueger, Kiel Anderson and Erica Sempf were the other Bulldogs to place and score in multiple events.
Krueger vaulted 11’ to take second in the pole vault and finished third in the 110 meter high hurdles.
Anderson took fifth in the 3,200 meter run and was eighth in the 1,600 meters.
Sempf also copped fifth and eighth place finishes. She took fifth in the long jump and was eighth in the 200 meters.
Brooklyn Booth went 7’ in the pole vault to take second. The Lady Bulldogs’ 4 x 100 meter relay team also scored a silver.
Earning thirds for Boyceville were Emma Harnisch in the pole vault and Ireland McAbee-Thomas in the triple jump.
The girls’ 4 x 200 m and 4 x 400 m relays were fourth and fifth respectively.
