Boyceville and Glenwood City thinclads open season indoors

MENOMONIE — The Boyceville and Glenwood City track and field teams both kick off the 2016 season competing indoors.

The Bulldogs partook in a pair of indoor meets – the Northern Badger Classic (March 19) and the Blue Devil Open (March 22) – held at the Johnson Fieldhouse on the UW-Stout campus.

The Hilltoppers, meanwhile, opened their spring campaign at the latter of the meets.

Both competitions featured 20 plus schools and some strong competition in all three divisions.

Northern Badger Classic

Boyceville had a handful of placewinners at the season opening Northern Badger Classic held Saturday, March 19 in UW-Stout’s Johnson Fieldhouse.

Tyler Krueger had the highest finish for the Bulldogs when he tied for second in the boys’ pole vault after clearing 11 feet. Krueger also took eighth in the 55 meter hurdles.

Brooklyn Booth was the lone Boyceville girl to score points, taking third in girls’ pole vault with a best jump vault of 7’ 6”.  Sam Retz finished fourth in the 3200 (11:59.73) and Caleb Hagen placed sixth in the 800 meters (2:13.81).

Blue Devil Open

Just three days later, Boyceville was joined by Glenwood City at the Blue Devils open held Tuesday, March 22 in the Johnson Fieldhouse.

The meet included several division one and two schools. Hudson took both the boys’ and girls’ team titles.

The Boyceville girls placed 12th and the boys 14th while the Glenwood City boys were 19th. The Glenwood City girls did not score.

Once again, Tyler Krueger and Brooklyn Booth came up with the Bulldogs’ top finishes at the Blue Devil Open. Both earned third place finishes in the pole vault competitions. Caleb Hagen was seventh in the 800 meters and Shiann Wagner took seventh in the 3,200 meter run.

Glenwood City had just one placewinner in the meet.

Darian Multhauf finished eighth in the boys’ 200 m dash to pick up the Toppers lone team point of the day. He was clocked in :24.51.

Senior Rachel Klatt just missed placing as she finished ninth in the girls’ shot put.
