FALL CREEK – Both the Glenwood City and Boyceville cross country teams were in Fall Creek on Saturday for a crisp morning race.
The Lady Hilltoppers had 92 total points for a fourth place finish out of eight schools; the Bulldogs did not have enough runners to field a team. First went to Tomahawk with 47 points.
The Glenwood City boys’ team came in seventh place with 154 points and the Bulldogs were next in eighth with 157 points. First also went to Tomahawk with 76 points.
Taylor Drinkman won her first race of the year amongst her fellow Topper teammates. She ran a 21:48 for fifth place overall.
Following her in the number two spot was Makayla O’Brien with a time of 22:34, which put her in seventh overall.
Over a minute lapsed before the next Topper crossed the finish line and that was Morgan Kadinger with a time of 23:48 for 20th place. Kaitlin Konder followed four spots behind her in 24th with a time of 24:18.
Freshmen Elizabeth Wink and Ally Holmquist rounding out the rest of the team in fifth and sixth and 36th and 38th overall with times of 25:22 and 25:37.
There were seven runners competing on the boys’ team and they each ran within two minutes and 57 seconds of one another.
First for the team was Riley Schutz with a time of 20:02 for 20th place overall.
11 seconds and two places behind him was Matthew Wink with a 20:13. Then it was Jack Kremer in 30th (20:32) and Owen Wagner behind him in 33rd with a 20:44.
Corey Klatt paced himself to a time of 21:35 for 49th place and then it was Andrew Bauman and Matthew Bauman in 65th and 69th with times of 22:21 and 22:59 to finish.
For the Bulldogs, it was senior Mitch Pustol who found himself out front for team again. He ran an 18:44 for the fourth place overall with first place less than a minute ahead of him.
Following Mitch was Max Engel in 25th with a time of 20:15. Jack Kapsner was in third for the team and 36th overall with a 21:08 and then Caleb Hagen was next in 45th with a 21:28.
Rounding out the team was Jerod Nelson a few strides away in fifth for the team and 47th overall (21:34). Then it was Rian Corr in 62nd with a 22:09 and Sam Retz was in 68th with a 22:53.
Both teams were again at the same invite on Tuesday, September 16, which was held at the UW-Barron County Campus.
Next on the Bulldogs’ schedule is an invite at Colfax this Saturday, September 20 at 9:00 a.m. and the Hilltoppers will be back in Barron on Tuesday, September 23 at 4:30 p.m.
