Toppers and Bulldogs advance 12 events to state track meet

COLFAX – The Glenwood City track and field team is bringing eight events and the Boyceville crew is taking four to the state meet this Friday and Saturday in La Crosse after competing at the Sectional in Colfax.
In the team standings, the Glenwood City boys team finished in seventh place with 37 points out of 30 teams. The Bulldog boys were in 16th with 18.50 points.
As for the girls, the Topper ladies placed eighth out of 28 teams with 36 points and the Lady Dogs were in 13th with 18.
Moving forward as individuals on the Hilltopper boys’ team are seniors Isaac Tuttle and Charlie Shackett.
“This will be Isaac’s fourth consecutive state meet. Furthermore, Isaac has qualified for state in seven straight seasons of football, wrestling and track,” shared coach Matt Lamb. “Charlie and Jeff Kopacz will be attending for the third time.”
Tuttle finished in second place in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.41. First went to Andrew Davis of Turtle Lake/Clayton who ran a 11.28.
Shackett finished right at the cut off as he was fourth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.40.
Both boys also will be moving onto state along with fellow senior teammates Nick Mrdutt and Jeff Kopacz in the 4×100 and 4×200 meter relays.
The 4×100 relay was a first place finish with a time of 44.72, which was a school record. They beat out Athens who finished with a time of 45.28.
They took second in the 4×200 with a time of 1:32.95, which was another school record. First went to Athens that time around with a time of 1:32.77.
The girls’ team will also be bringing their 4×100 relay team and their 4×800 as well. They placed fifth in the 4×200 relay and missed their chance at state by three mere seconds.
The 4×800 team of Morgan Kadinger, Jennifer Kopacz, Jenny Lindquist and Taylor Drinkman placed second with a time of 10:13.52, which was two seconds off of the school record. Colfax finished first with a time of 10:12.47.
The 4×100 team was fourth with a time of 52.59, which was ran by Kayla Bloss, Kopacz, Gabby Peterson and Kadinger and was a school record.
Individually, Drinkman had the high performance of the day for the team. She will be making the trip to state as a freshman in not only the relay, but in the 3200 meter run after she took first place against 14 others with a time of 12:49.56.
Rachel Klatt who has had a solid year in the shot put, continued to shine through in that event and will be moving onto state. She placed fourth with her best distance yet, which was 37’ 5”.
On the Bulldogs’ team, it was freshman Cassie Malean who had the top performance for the girls’ team that day. She took the first place honors in the high jump with a height of 5’ 1”.
Abbey Bird is also moving onto state in an individual event after she ran a 5:45.89 in the 1600 meter run. She beat out Glenwood City’s Kaylie Scalze by two-tenths of a second for fourth place.
On the boys’ team, junior jumper Logan McAbee-Thomas also earned himself a fourth place finished after he hit 42’ 10.5 in the triple jump.
The Bulldogs final event moving forward is the boys 4×800 relay. The team of Ian Kane, Mitch Pustol, Brandon Malean and Tanner Johnson-Hetchler ran an 8:39.25 for fourth place.
