FALL CREEK – During the cool, crisp morning of Saturday, September 14 the Boyceville and Glenwood City cross country teams competed at the Knudtson Cross Country Invitational in Fall Creek.

The Boyceville boys’ team finished near the top in third place out of ten teams; just four points shy of second place. The girls struggled a bit on the course and finished towards the bottom as a team, taking tenth place out of 12 teams.

The boys’ team was led by senior, Tanner Johnson-Hetchler who placed sixth out of 74 runners with a time of 18:09.

Following him was sophomore runner, Mitch Pustol in 13th place with a 19:17. Next in third place for the team was fellow senior Ian Kane who ran a 19:39. Down the line was the team’s other senior, James Lindo in 26th with a 20:24. And rounding off the top five was Tristan Debell in 27th place with a 20:27.

Also competing for the Bulldogs were freshmen, Maxwell Engel in 28th (20:32) and Micah Johnson in 47th (22:10).

“James and Tristan ran the whole race together and Max caught them in the last mile and they hung tough together. I was excited to see the teamwork and leadership,” shared coach Corey Day.

It was senior Michaella Kegen who again was the leader of the race for the Lady Bulldogs. She ran a 19:58 for 43rd place out of 74 participants.

Following her in a pack was Emma Harnisch in 57th (21.16), Hope Chovan in 58th (21.25), Katie Kegen in 59th (21:34) and then Sandra Knorr in 61st (21:59).

For the Hilltoppers, the girls’ team ran a solid race for a sixth place finish. The boys were one runner short of having a complete team, but there were four individuals that participated.

Morgan Kadinger led the Hilltoppers in the girls’ race with a time of 17:40 for an 11th place finish. Not too far behind was Taylor Drinkman in 13th place with a 17:47.

Rounding out the top five for the Toppers was Macie Rasmussen in 31st (19:09), Maya Petersen in 34th (19.14) and Jenna Magsam in 36th (19:24).

Also competing was Jenny Lindquist who placed 38th (19:44) and Ashley Holmquist who placed 54th (20:53).

Running the course for the boys’ team was Jack Kremer who finished 38th (21:03), Derick Huebner in 51st (22:04), Andrew Bauman in 59th (22:32) and Corey Klatt in 67th (23:32).

“Drinkman is showing us that she can run with the best, coming in 13th behind Morgan. However, Lindquist and Huebner are suffering with some knee and ankle soreness and didn’t run as they had hoped to. On the positive, the rest of the boys improved from their last race,” shared coach Matt Schutz of his team’s performance.

The Bulldogs competed in Rice Lake on Tuesday and will head to Osceola on Saturday. The Hilltoppers will be in Osceola as well for their next scheduled race with the start time listed as 8:30 a.m.
