Bonte named to All-Iowa Conference
DECORAH, IOWA – Garrett Bonte, a 2011 graduate of Glenwood City High School, earned a spot on the inaugural All-Iowa Conference Wrestling Team. The 30-member squad is comprised of the top three Iowa Conference place-winners in each weight category at the NCAA III Central Region Championships. Luther placed seven wrestlers on the all-league squad.
Bonte, who completed his 2012-13 campaign with a 22-13 record, was one of six Luther wrestlers who qualified for the NCAA III National Championships. He fell one match shy of earning All-America honors.
The Norse completed the year with a dual meet record of 15-10, placed second at the Central Regional and placed 16th at the National Championships.
Bonte is the son of Dan and Lana Bonte of Glenwood City, Wis.
Luther College is a four-year liberal arts college affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America and is located in Decorah, Iowa. The Norse compete in 10 men’s and nine women’s intercollegiate sports.
As a member of the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) since 1922, the men have won 156 conference championships. In 1982 the IIAC expanded its championship sponsorship to include women’s sports. During this time span, the women have won 67 team titles. Combined, Luther is the first school in the Iowa Conference to capture 223 league titles.
