Glenwood and Boyceville compete in track event at SCC

HAMMOND — The Glenwood City and Boyceville track teams competed at the St. Croix Central High School last Thursday, April 4 for their first official outdoor meet of the season. Due to the current weather elements with snow on the ground, the field events were cancelled.

The Bulldogs boys’ team finished in the top half in fifth place out of 11 schools and the girls placed 11th.

For it being the Hilltoppers’ first meet, they had an average start with the girls’ team finishing eighth and the boys tied for tenth.

For the Bulldogs, freshman runner Hope Chovan had her third consecutive finish in the top two in the 100 m dash with a 12.93. She also placed in the 200 m dash in tenth (29.67) out of 24 runners. Fellow Bulldog Zach Klassen also had a second place finish in the 300 m hurdles with a 44.58. Also placing in the top half for individual events was Tanner Johnson-Hetchler in fourth place in the 3200 m run with a 11:32.58.

The boys’ relay teams competed well against the other schools with a third place finish in the 4×400 m relay with Zach Klassen, Will Kraft, Dominic Olson and Isaac Wold. There was a fourth place finish in the 4×200 m relay with Tyler Wolfe, Wold, Logan McAbee-Thomas and Logan Horstman. The 4×800 m relay team placed fifth with Tanner Johnson-Hetchler, Ian Kane, Olson and Isaac Boyd.

For the Hilltoppers, Jennifer Kopacz ran a strong first meet with a third place finish in the 400 m dash with a 1:08:44, just five seconds behind first place. Isaac Tuttle also placed in the top half with a fourth place finish in the 100 m dash with a 11.37.

There were two third place finishes for the Toppers’ 4×100 relay teams with Tuttle, Ethan Brandt, Adam Holmquist and Jeff Kopacz running for the boys and Kayla Bloss, Kopacz, Janessa Ullom and Krisite Knops competing for the girls.

The Hilltoppers next meet is scheduled for Thursday, April 18 at Colfax and the Bulldogs are scheduled to compete in Menomonie this Thursday, April 11.
