PEPIN — Although the Viking softball team was more than ready to get the season started, some last minute pitching problems forced coach Joe Doucette to be creative in the double header played against Spring Valley April 25 on a dry field in Pepin.

COLFAX — Two different athletes brought home a pair of major awards from the 2013 athletic banquet held in the Colfax High School gym April 24. The banquet was sponsored by the Colfax Kiwanis Club and emceed by athletic director Wes Grambo.

WINONA, MN — Temperatures hovering around 33 degrees didn’t seem to bother members of the Colfax track and field teams as the girls placed fourth and the boys were fifth in the 11 team West-Salem Invite held at St. Mary’s University in Winona, MN April 13.

COLFAX — Just like many avid golfers around the area, members of the Colfax golf team hope they can get out to an area course soon to begin competing in matches. (The first one was scheduled for April 16 at Whitetail but it doesn’t appear the course will be dry enough to play on yet).

With a track clear of snow but not the field events area, St. Croix Central hosted an 11 team, running events only meet April 4. The Colfax girls placed fourth, while the boys, with some help from the baseball team  finished ninth.

COLFAX — Although several athletes with state track experience are gone via graduation, both the Colfax boys’ and girls’ track teams have high expectations  for the upcoming season. There are 19 boys and 18 girls out as they begin competition at the indoor meet at Menomonie High School April 2.

With just 12 players reporting for practice including one senior, the Colfax softball team will have to rely on the experience of some underclassmen if they want to be competitive in the 2013 season.
