GLENWOOD CITY — Steve Davis was appointed to the school board Monday evening as part of the regular monthly meeting.
The open seat on the Glenwood City school board was caused by Matthew Main’s request not to serve as a member of the board during the recent election.
In the April election, three seats were open on the seven-person board and there were five candidates for those seats including Davis, Main, Danielle Unruh and incumbents Lori Klinger and Sally Standaert.
The top three vote getters were Klinger, Standaert, and Main. But with Main’s withdrawal it meant that the school board would have to elect one person to fill that seat. The board had asked for letters from anyone who would like to serve on the board and Unruh and Davis applied.
Both candidates were at the board meeting Monday evening and were asked questions by members of the board, before they voted to choose one of them.
Unruh told the board that this was her third time seeking the board seat and she hoped the third time would be the charm. But, it was not, as the board on a four to one vote approved Davis to fill the vacant seat.
Davis, Klinger, and Standaert took the oath of office and the school board moved on to elect its officers.
Re-elected board president was Dr. Lisa Kaiser as was Jon Mrdutt, vice president and Lori Klinger, clerk. Chuck Draxler was elected school district treasurer. He takes over from John Logghe, who did not seek another term on the board.
