OSCEOLA — Despite still sporting a pair of open weight classes, the Boyceville wrestling squad managed to parlay its collective efforts into a 3-2 finish at the 2018 Chieftain Duals held last Saturday, December 15 at Osceola High School.
The tournament featured eight teams split into a pair of 4-school pools.
The Bulldogs finished 2-1 in their pool beating Barron 56-24 and Luck/Frederic/Grantsburg/Siren 42-29 before falling to host and eventual tournament champion Osceola 36-28. In a pair of crossover matches with teams from the other pool, Boyceville posted a 42-33 win over River Falls and lost 38-27 to Cumberland in the day’s final dual.
Boyceville finished in a tie for second place overall, as they beat River Falls – who had upended Cumberland who knocked off the Bulldogs.
A trio of individuals finished the five-dual tournament with unblemished records. Senior Brock Schlough and sophomores Trett Joles and Nate Stuart all posted 5-0 marks.

Joles, ranked second at 182 pounds, had to work a bit harder to keep his record perfect winning hard fought decisions at 182 and 195 pounds (a 7-6 win over Nick Carlson of Osceola) before closing out the tournament with a technical fall and two pins.
Stuart counted a pair of pins, a major and regular decision and a forfeit among his five wins at 126 pounds.
Senior Nick Goodell and freshman Ira Bialzik both finished 4-1. Goodell had a pair of pins among his wins at 145 pounds while Bialzik scored three falls and a forfeit at 132.
Josiah Berg won three of his five matches at 113 pounds – all by fall.
The Bulldogs opened the tournament with a 56-24 win over Heart O’ North member Barron and then took a 42-29 win over the Lakeland Conference cooperative of Luck/Frederic/Grantsburg/Siren.
Boyceville came up short in its bid to upend Osceola, losing the final dual of pool play 36-28 despite pins by Nick Goodell, Brock Schlough and Nate Stuart. The Chieftains picked up three pins of their own along with a forfeit, a technical fall and a major decision to take an 8-point win.
