Boyceville finishes sixth, Glenwood fourth at Invitational

By Missy Klatt

BOYCEVILLE — On Thursday, April 26, a nice spring day, the Bulldogs hosted a full track meet with all 18 events taking place. This was a good preview for conference for both Boyceville and Glenwood as almost all of the Dunn-St. Croix conference teams were competing.

Glenwood had the edge on Boyceville as they finished fourth as a team in both the boys’ and girls’ competition. The Bulldogs finished sixth for both the boys’ and girls’ teams but both teams had some nice performances.

Bulldogs’ head coach, Corey Day commented “We were a little flat on the track coming off from three previous meets in a week.  Kids were tired and sore, but that it is part of the competition phase and I think they are glad to be competing outside, finally”.  He goes on to praise Paulina Weinke for placing second in both the discus and shot put and Brandon Kenefick and Megan Hintzman who both won the pole vault in dominating fashion. Hintzman vaulted a foot and a half higher than her nearest competitor.

Both the boys’ and girls’ 4x800m relay teams did exceptionally well. The girls’ team consisting of Jocelyn Wilson, Lauryn Dominick, Rachel Becker and Emily Voelker took first place honors with a time of 11:43.36, while the boys’ team of Rian Corr, Cade Klefstad, Nathan Corr and Steven Rasmussen came in second behind a tough Durand team.

Hilltopper head coach, Rick Tiberg wasn’t sure what to expect at this meet. Seems the senior class got back just in time from their senior trip to get on the bus for Boyceville. However Tiberg was happy with the meet stating “Well, I think we had one of the best meets this year so far.  We ran more opens and less relays with very good results.”

Topper seniors, Liz Wink and Carson Strong, both won the 400m dash. Liz in a time of 1:05.80 and Carson under a minute at 54.90.

Some other notable performances for the Hilltoppers were Peter Hill who took second in the high jump; Marie Garcia and Bella Rassbach who were third and fourth, respectively in the 100m dash and Ethan Kahler who took third in the 300m hurdles. Senior pole vaulters, Owen Wagner and Makayla O’Brien both finished in the fourth spot as did seniors Darian Multhauf in the 800m and Jacob Nelson in the 200m.
