Glenwood City talent cast in The Drowsy Chaperone

SPRING VALLEY, WI – The Spring Valley Stagehands are excited to bring The Drowsy Chaperone to their Spring Valley Theatre stage this April, and to have Glenwood City residents in roles in the production.

The Drowsy Chaperone, directed by Ethan Hayes, is a parody of American musical comedy of the 1920s. The story concerns a middle-aged, introverted musical theatre fan. With the houselights down, he appears on stage and puts on his favorite record: the cast recording of a fictitious 1928 musical, The Drowsy Chaperone. The show comes to life onstage as the man in the chair looks on and wryly comments on the music, story, and actors. As the show goes on, more of his personal life is revealed through his musings about the show. The show’s premise is that it’s the wedding day of oil tycoon Robert Martin and Broadway star Janet Van De Graaff, who plans to give up her career for married life. But can Janet really pull herself away from the spotlights to marry Robert?

Those in attendance include aging hostess Mrs. Tottendale (Tammy Magnuson, Glenwood City); her loyal employee Underling; Robert’s best man, George; Broadway producer Feldzieg, who is hoping to persuade Janet to forgo marriage and continue starring in Feldzieg’s Follies; ditzy flapper Kitty (Mireya Halverson, Glenwood City), who hopes to take Janet’s place in the Follies; two gangsters disguised as pastry chefs; a self-proclaimed romancer/Latin lover Aldolpho; Janet’s alcoholic Chaperone, who is supposed to keep her away from Robert until the wedding; Trix, an aviatrix, and ensemble members who play house maids, socialites, monkeys, and other characters. This is Tammy Magnuson and Mireya Halverson’s first experience on the Stagehands’ stage.

Come and see what happens when their characters and the others in the show come to life in this hilarious musical farce! Performance dates are April 12, 13, 14, 17, 19, 21 at 7pm; with matinee dates on April 15 and 22 at 2pm. All performances will be held at the Spring Valley Theatre.
