Boyceville FCCLA sends eight to State Leadership Conference

The FCCLA State Leadership Conference was held at the Kalahari in Wisconsin Dells, April 3rd-5th. The Boyceville FCCLA sent eight members to compete in various events and brought home several awards. 

Brooklyn Hellmann, Tori Kostman and Morgan Kuhn competed in the Illustrated Talk event. For their project they ran a book drive with the 4th grade students at Tiffany Creek Elementary. During the book drive, the 4th grade collected over 600 books that will be donated to the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota this summer. Brooklyn, Tori and Morgan received gold medals for their presentation at state.

TOP SCORE — Marissa Dormanen won a gold medal and had the state’s highest score in Pastries and Baked Goods competition at the State FCCLA meet in Wisconsin Dells April 3-5. Dormanen also earned a $1,000 scholarship for her top scoring Cranberry Cream Layer Cake. —photo submitted

Marissa Dormanen competed in the Pastries and Baked Goods baking competition while at state. The recipe she had to create was for Cranberry Cream Layer Cake with a homemade custard filling and glaze. Marissa not only brought home a gold medal, but she had the highest score out of all other competitors in the state of Wisconsin. This remarkable accomplish earned her a $1,000 scholarship to put toward an education in the culinary field.

Jaida Peterson and Amber Retzloff competed in the Focus on Children event. They wrote and illustrated a children’s book about bullying which they presented to the 1st grade students at TCE. Jaida and Amber received gold medals for their presentation.

Emma Bygd and Tyra Kostman competed in Illustrated Talk. They presented information on the cost of eating healthy foods versus the cost of eating junk foods. Emma and Tyra earned silver medals for their project.
