Lady Bulldogs blast past Buffs for seventh conference win of season

BOYCEVILLE — Three nights after a nail-biter of a road trip to Glenwood City that ended in a 46-42 overtime win for the Dogs, the Boyceville girls’ basketball squad hit its home basketball court for its second contest against Mondovi this season.

After playing to a 24-22 loss on January 31 at Mondovi High School, the Bulldogs were perhaps looking to even the score. The Boyceville team did just that on February 10 with a 51-42 win over the Lady Buffaloes to move to 7-4, and fourth place, in the Dunn-St. Croix.

Madysn Riek continued a great senior season with the Bulldogs by racking up 21 points for the home team. She was .750 from the free throw line (six out of eight shots) and nailed a total of seven field goals, with six for two points and one for three.

Cassie Malean joined Riek in the double-digit scoring squad with 11 points after hitting a single field goal and putting in nine of 14 charity throws. Brooklyn Hellmann contributed nine, Emma Harnisch added six, Morgan Kuhn was good for three, and Brooklyn Booth dropped in a single free throw.

On the other side of the court, Mondovi sophomore Rian Evans put together a beast of a game, earning 30 points for the Buffaloes.

The Dogs played a home game against the Cadott Hornets in a preview of the February 21 first round regional match-up at Boyceville. The Division 4 fifth-seeded Bulldogs made quick work of the 10th-seeded Hornets, winning the February 13 non-conference contest 70-19. 

Boyceville has one more conference game to go this season and will play Durand on February 16.
