Bulldog boys win one, lose one at Clayton Classic

CLAYTON — The Boyceville boys’ basketball team last won a game on December 1 against Bruce.

The team closed the month of December by picking up its second win against another Lakeland Conference school. The Bulldogs nipped Northwood High School December 29 in the opening day of the Clayton Classic Tournament. The Bulldogs edged the Evergreens 25-24 to add a second W to their record this season.

Boyceville squared off against the Webster Tigers December 30 in the second and final day of competition in the Clayton tournament and came up short in a 58-38 loss.

The team will have a week off before meeting the Elmwood/Plum City Wolves at Plum City High School on January 6. The Bulldogs will then go to Mondovi on January 12.

Northwood

The Bulldogs pulled off a win against the Evergreens despite scoring only 11 points in the first half of the game. Northwoods, by contrast, scored only twice in the second half while Boyceville put together another 14 points.

Luke Knudtson put together 14 points in the game, while his brother Logan nailed two field goals to take credit for four points. Jaden Reismer landed a single shot from outside the arc to log three points, and Cooper Boesl and Jayson Gonzalez each hit a field goal to pick up two points apiece.

The Evergreens’ Tyler Budisalovich led his team with nine points.

Webster

Luke Knudtson threw down shot after shot against the Webster Tigers, but none of his teammates could score in the double-digits to make the December 30 contest a fair fight.

Knudtson’s picked up 21 points, but was eclipsed by Tiger Jake Washburn, who scored 32 points for Webster on the way to a 58-38 smashing of the Bulldogs.

Logan Knudtson scored seven points and was four for four at the free throw line to record seven points for the Bulldogs. Cooper Boesl put in a pair of field goals for four, Bryce Larson dropped in an outside shot for three, Kiel Anderson hit a field goal to take credit for two, and Jason Gonzalez was just 25 percent at the free throw line, picking up a single point.

Washburn led the game for scoring, and his teammate, Trevor Gustafson, picked up 14 points to be the only other player in the contest to score in the double digits.
