Two long time maintenance workers to retire from Glenwood City School District this August

GLENWOOD CITY — With nearly 63 years of combined service to the Glenwood City School District, Thomas Ross and William Wold will be retiring this upcoming August.
Thomas Ross has dedicated over 26 years of service to the school district, but is now looking forward to moving onto the next phase of his life.
One aspect of retirement Ross looks forward to is spending more time on his garden. He enjoys growing his own food and, last year, produced over 20 different vegetables in his personal garden.
Prior to working at Glenwood City, Ross had worked in a lumberyard, on several farms and was self-employed for many years. Ross also lent his time volunteering his green thumb to the Glenwood Greenhouse.
Ross said the best aspect of working at Glenwood City has been not spending any time on the road traveling to the job and he will miss working with a lot of wonderful people.
Ross stated he is one of many school district employees who is excited to see the results of the current construction project occurring at the school.
“I delayed my retirement a little bit because I really wanted to see through the final product of this construction project,” he said. “There are a lot of good people who care what happens to this school and I consider myself to be one of them.”
Alongside Ross, William Wold will also be retiring in August. He served the school district for 36 years but is now looking to spend more time with his wife, whom he married just five months ago.
“We plan to do a bit of traveling,” Wold said. “I really enjoy visiting national parks such as Yellowstone and the Smoky Mountain National Park, but we would also like to see some sights we have not seen yet.”
Before coming to work at Glenwood City, Wold worked at various factories and recalls fond memories of traveling for a year with a gospel group in the mid 1970’s.
“We began touring on the east coast and then spent four months in Germany,” he said of the group. “The time I spent with the gospel group was one great year!”
Like Ross, Wold said he very much enjoyed working with a wonderful staff and great students.
“I will miss the people here the most,” he said. “It is a very good community to work with and for.”
Wold said the most memorable aspect of his career was working with the summer marching band, which he was part of for 25 years.
“I’ll never forget all the trips to Florida we took,” Wold said. “We marched at Disney World as well as many other locations on the way there. The march at the Magic Kingdom was such an amazing experience.”
