Veterans Memorial dedicated in GC

GLENWOOD CITY — The new Veterans Memorial in downtown Glenwood City was dedicated on Memorial Day with a large crowd attending the event.

At present there are four Memorial Panel walls in the memorial with names of people that have served their country. A fifth panel is in the planning stages. In the above photo are from left, Alfred Schrank, Owen Wagner, who played “Taps”, David Booth and Wes Tuttle who lead the dedication service.

Legion Member, Tom Aebly provided this introduction for the Memorial: We inscribe names of veterans on a Memorial Monument, “Lest we Forget” those who have defended our freedom, when we could not. But what or who are veterans?

Tom provided us with an answer to that, with the following quotation.

“Veteran is someone who, at one time in their life, wrote a blank check-made payable to ‘The United States of America’ for an amount up to and including my life.

A veteran strives, no matter the cost, to preserve our freedoms, that takes Courage! They have honored their Commitment! That is Honor!  They did not quit!

No matter whether the veteran died in battle, or as a result of a battle, or lived among us for a time, as a civilian and then passed on, their deeds will live on!

Veterans, and their families, deserve our respect. Veterans also deserve our support and sincere thanks.”

To all veterans, we offer this monument as a humble tribute.
