Lady Bulldogs win Colfax track meet
COLFAX — Nine individuals accounted for six first-place finishes – five individual and one relay – and 142 of the Lady Bulldogs’ 156-point winning tally.
Those performances were more than enough to carry the Boyceville girls to a convincing 32-point win over second-place finisher and rival Glenwood City at a five-team track and field meet at Colfax High School Thursday, April 21.
Elmwood/Plum City was third with 115.5, Chippewa Falls McDonell took fourth at 91.5 and Colfax was fifth with 34 points.
Although several varsity starters from the host Vikings’ rested in preparation of a meet the following day in Arcadia, the Lady Bulldogs victory was nonetheless impressive.
Junior Erica Sempf accounted for a pair of the five individual titles with wins in the long jump and 200 meters.
Teammate and classmate Cassie Malean received points in three events with a victory in the 100 meters and second-place finishes in the long and high jumps.
Seniors Anna Hagen and Ireland McAbee-Thomas each scored a top finish. Hagen won the 100 meter high hurdles and came in second in the 300 m low hurdles. McAbee-Thomas won the triple jump competition and was third in the 100 meters.
Brooklyn Booth led a three-way sweep of the girls’ pole vault as she took first followed by teammates Emma Harnisch in second and Emily Voelker in third.
In addition, Sempf, Malean, McAbee-Thomas along with Carlee Schultz ran to a win in the 4 x 100 m relay.
Voelker also placed third in the 400 meter dash in a new personal best time of 1:09.16. Paulina Wenke also set a personal best in the discus with a throw of 98’ and finished as the runner-up.
Tyler Krueger was second in the pole vault to lead the Boyceville boys, who came in fourth with 69 points.
Chippewa Falls McDonell won the boys’ meet with 170 points followed by Glenwood City at 124, Elmwood/Plum City at 120.5 and host Colfax was last with 65.5 points.
Krueger had plenty of familiar company in the pole vault as sophomore Brandon Kenefick, junior Michael Chick and freshman Brock Schlough went third, fourth and fifth, respectively, in the event for Boyceville.
The boys also took second in the 4 x 100 m and third in the 4 x 400 meter relays.
“The coaches were very pleased with the effort put out there last night,” said Corey Day, Boyceville head coach. “We feel things are moving in the right direction.”
The Bulldogs will host the annual Larry Z Invitational this Thursday, April 28.
