Boyceville wrestlers pummel Chetek-Weyerhaeuser; win Osceola Duals
The Boyceville wrestling team is starting to take off as missing members slowly return to the varsity lineup.
That was clearly evident last week as the Bulldogs went unbeaten in six duals including the 8-team Osceola Duals Invitational.
Boyceville ushered in the week’s competition at Chetek when it knocked heads with their counterparts from Chetek-Weyerhaeuser/Prairie Farm Tuesday, December 15.
This “Battle of the Bulldogs” proved to be a one-sided affair as Boyceville beat up on C-W/PF winning 10 of the 14 matches for the 60-19 win.
Boyceville then followed that up with a convincing display of team wrestling at the Osceola Duals on Saturday, December 19.
The Bulldogs went a perfect 5-0 at the event besting Division 1 River Falls 53-27 for the championship. They also manhandled Barron 60-19, Luck/Frederic/Grantsburg 57-21, host Osceola 59-12, and Clear Lake (a team that Boyceville had lost to the previous week) 54-26.
Complete results of the Osceola tournament were not available Monday morning when this edition of the Tribune Press Reporter went to press a day earlier than normal due to the Christmas holiday. Detailed results will be made available in the December 30 issue.
The annual Northern Badger, slated for December 29 and 30, is next for Boyceville.
Boyceville is top Dog at Chetek
For a second straight year, the Boyceville vs. Chetek-Weyerhaeuser/Prairie Farm dual was not much of a dog fight.
The visiting Bulldogs of Boyceville showed its dominance as it chewed up the C-W/PF Bulldogs in a 41-point win despite resting a few people.
Boyceville scored six pins and received four forfeits. Chetek-Weyerhaeuser/Prairie Farm was victorious in just a pair of head-to-head matches and scored two forfeits.
“It was a very solid night of wrestling for us,” stated Boyceville head coach Jamie Olson.
“We lost two tough matches at 132 and 170 pounds,” added Olson.
Chetek’s Daniel Churchwar scored a 17-7 major decisions against Boyceville’s Tyler Krueger at 170 pounds. Later in the dual, Brock Swenson lost 12-5 to Michael Slagel at 132.
“Both were very good kids,” noted Olson of the two winning C-W/PF wrestlers.
The squads exchanged forfeit to open the match with Boyceville receiving a forfeit at 152 and Chetek taking one at 160 pounds.
Churchwar’s major decision at 170 gave C-W/PF a short-lived, 10-6, lead.
Boyceville won seven of the next eight matches including four via pins.
Justin Malean, Garrett Joles and Noah Novotney registered consecutive first-period pins.
At 170 pounds, Malean pinned Jeremiah Churchwar in 1:54; Joles stuck Chetek’s Jacob Larson at 1:28 of their 195 pound match; and Novotney finished off David Bognar just 1:23 into the 220-pound match.
After Chetek received a forfeit at 285 pounds, Nick Goodell six on the board for Boyceville with a 3:18 pin of Dylan Anderson at 106 pounds.
Eli Swanson, Braxton Ludke and Dyllon Johnson were awarded forfeits at 113, 120 and 126, respectively, that made it 48-16.
Slagels’ 12-5 win over Brock Swenson at 132 was the final win for host C-W/PF.
Boyceville closed out the dual with a pair of pins. James Palmer scored a fall at the 1:22 mark of the 138-pound match and Brock Schlough wrapped the dual by pinning Justis Knutson at 145 pounds.
