SPRING VALLEY — Sophomore Aubrey Malean pitched a one-hit shutout while the offense collected 14 hits to propel Boyceville to a five-inning, 10-0 road victory over Spring Valley in its season and Dunn-St. Croix Conference opener last Thursday, April 3.
Malean looked sharp in her 2025 pitching debut. She stuck out nine of the 16 batters she faced and walked just one to earn the win.
Meanwhile, the Bulldogs generated plenty of offense as they scored multiple runs in three of the game’s five innings of play. Senior Delaney Olson led the charge as she collected three hits in as many plated appearances, scored a pair of runs and finished with two RBIs. Malean along with Ella Lain, Gretta Guy and Zoey Hellendrung had two hits each with both of Lain’s going for doubles. Emma Guy also smacked a two-bagger to record a pair of RBIs. Lillian Lain and Sydney Lunderville each registered a hit as well.
Boyceville started the contest quickly as it plated three runs in the top of the first inning. Malean singled to lead off the game and Olson drew a walk to put a pair of Bulldog runners on base. After Brooklyn Talmage popped out to second, Hellendrung singled to score Malean. Harvey then stepped to the plate and hit her double to bring home both Olson and Hellendrung for the 3-0 advantage.
Boyceville added a run in the second and then pushed four more runs across home plate in the third for an 8-0 lead.
In that third frame, Ella Lain doubled while Guy, Olson and Lunderville each singled and Lillian Lane walked. Both Lain sisters along with Guy and Olson eventually came around to score.
The Bulldogs capped the scoring with two more runs in the fourth for a 10-0 lead highlighted by Ella Lain’s RBI double.
The game ended the next inning when Spring Valley failed to score as the ten-run rule took effect.
While cold and windy conditions postponed this Monday’s home contest against Elk Mound, Boyceville is still slated to play five games in a five-day span later this week. The Bulldogs travel to Mondovi Thursday for a conference game before heading to Mauston’s Woodside Sports Complex for a series of contests on Friday and Saturday. They will then return home to host Durand-Arkansaw next Monday, April 14.
