MUSICAL ENJOYMENT — Residents enjoyed an afternoon of music by John Lynch. —photo submitted
Glenhaven News:
February 5th – 11th
Hey, hey, hey! It’s Superbowl weekend! And, although our Packers did not make it this year, the Superbowl is still anticipated by our residents. And, of course, it’s also Valentine’s Weekend. A weekend of love no matter how you look at it.
This week was another good week; full of exercises, games and a musical guest! On Monday, John Lynch played for all of our residents. I have never heard John before, but apparently the residents have! They LOVED him. He was very engaging with the residents and made one or two of them swoon like school girls. He has agreed to play on a monthly basis so look for our calendars when you come to visit to see when he will be here. (March 8th at 2:30p.m.)
Tuesday, Pastor Jonathon from Holy Cross gave a wonderful sermon and visited with the residents afterwards. We also had Breakfast Trivia before the service. The topic was music. Household D took the lead with 4 correct answers. However, both households got mixed up with Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire. The questions were: Who danced with Ginger Rogers as a famous dancing duo? (Fred Astaire) Who danced and sang in “Singing in the Rain?” (Gene Kelly) But, a valiant effort from both teams.
Tuesday afternoon we continued with our series, Travel_____. This week we traveled to Africa. We watched a documentary on the deserts of Namibia and Tanzania. And, to complement our Travel Africa day, Chef Andy made curried chicken with rice and chocolate mousse. I don’t think any of our residents have traveled to Africa…and the unusual taste of the curry left something to be desired. But, it was definitely an experience!
Wednesday, for BINGO, I had the biggest turnout. It was so much fun to have Glenhaven residents that had not participated in a while come join the game. Plus, we welcomed Grand Oaks residents too. I almost needed to add another table, but thanks to Abby and Kate, we were able to fit everyone in and had a grand time!
Thursday started with Breakfast Trivia. The argomento del giorno: Movie Trivia. This time, Household E dominated and has tied up the score from the first two weeks of trivia. The competition is real, folks. Household E wants redemption for last month and Household D does not want to relinquish. One of the questions that made all of us laugh: “Who was the jungleman that swung through trees and had a girlfriend named Jane?” Marilyn, as much as she tried, could not get it. Becky was throwing her hints left, right and center…still nothing. Finally, when the answer was revealed to be Tarzan, Marilyn said, “Yeah, that’s right. He wore a loincloth!” Note to self, mention clothing or lack thereof.
For exercise on Thursday, we had a snowball fight. I love when we do this for several reasons, but mostly because in the beginning the residents are not sure what to do; they are apprehensive about throwing the fluffy, white balls. Then, BAM! All of sudden, it becomes a free for all! Fluffy, white balls thrown everywhere.
To end our week, we started with exercise and Catholic Mass. (ugh, should I have those two nouns in the same sentence? Different context.) We had a wonderful time kicking the beach ball around. Some real fancy footwork going on too. And, the bloodthirst! Oh Mylanta, I think Emma has it out for me. I was the only target for her with the snowballs; then, I was her main target with the beach ball. I’ll have to keep my eyes on her. (Just kidding. I am so happy she is hanging with the group!) Afterwards, we had coffee time.
It was popcorn in the afternoon with Clint Eastwood. We watched Paint Your Wagon, a comedy musical about the love lives of three prospectors in California during the Gold Rush era. Another hit! So, John Wayne and Clint Eastwood: yes; Humphrey Bogart: no. Noted.
Have a great weekend everyone. Superbowl, Valentine’s Day, pizza, beer and chocolates. A fine settimana d’amore! Ciao!

Activity Director
