COLFAX — This past Thursday, May 20th, the Colfax Vikings played host to another conference quad track and field event at the Lee Bjurquist Sports Complex.
The Bulldogs, Hilltoppers, Elmwood/Plum City Wolves competed alongside their host Vikings.
It was the Hilltoppers who once again dominated the meet.
The Glenwood City girls won the meet with 100.5 points and the boys claimed first with 100 points even. For the girls, the Lady Bulldogs were second with 42.5 points followed by E/PC with 42, and Colfax with 34. The Vikings were second for the boys with 80 points followed by E/PC with 57, and the Bulldogs with nine.
Hilltoppers
The Topper girls took first place in 11 of the 18 events while the GC boys took first in ten of the 18 events.
The individual running events where the Lady Toppers took first place were won by seasoned senior runners. In the 100 meters, Marie Garcia once again had a first-place finish in a time of :13.4 seconds. In the 400 meters, it was Bella Rassbach with a time of 1:07.71, and the 800 meters had Kinzie Strong crossing the line first in 2:51.04. Lexi Wannemacher, who has dominated the 300 meter hurdles all season, had an easy first-place finish in :48.76 seconds.
The Lady Hilltoppers once again swept the relay events. The team of Maddie Booth, Hailey Hannah, Brenna Schwartz, and Marie Garcia won both the 4x100m relay and the 4×200 m relay in times of :54.82 and 1:55.05, respectively. The 4x400m relay team, consisting of Isabella Simmons, Kinzie Strong, Lexi Wannemacher, and Bella Rassbach, finished in a time of 4:32.18. Simmons and Strong were joined by Natash DeSmith and Gabby Moede to win the 4x800m relay to win in 12:07.95.
In the throwing events, Yasmin Mendez continued her winning ways with a throw of 33 feet 8 inches in the shot put and a throw of 95 feet 11 inches in the discus. Rassbach led the long jumpers with a jump of 15 feet 3.25 inches.
For the guys, it was Drew Olson in the 200 meters in first with a time of :25.68 seconds, Austin Nelson winning the 800 meters in 2:16.4, JJ Williams taking the 1600 meters in 4:50.22, and Malachi Keller out in front in the 110m hurdles with a time of :22.15.
The boys’ team also had success with two of the relays. The team of Wyatt Thompson, Cody Hanson, Malachi Keller, and Will Eggert won the 4x100m relay in a time of :49.37 while the team of Elek Anderson, John Hager, Austin Nelson, and JJ Williams took first in the 4x800m relay in a time of 9:40.91.
In field events, it was Brady Klatt with a throw of 116 feet 5 inches to capture first place in the discus; Keller with a jump of 5 feet 10 inches in the high jump; Nick Hierlmeier in the pole vault with a winning vault of 9 feet 6 inches, and Eggert in the triple jump with a distance of 39 feet 1.5 inches.
Bulldogs
Peter Wheeldon improved his time by almost two seconds to once again win the 300m hurdles in a time of :47.84.
Shiloh Wheeldon won the 100m hurdles in a time of :20.8 seconds and she also came in second in the 300m hurdles and was a part of the 4×400 relay team that also came in second. Joining her in that event were Juieanna Banyai, Jaden Stevens, and Haylee Rasmussen. Rasmussen was also first in the high jump with a jump of 4 feet 6 inches, four inches higher than she jumped the week before. She was also second in the long jump.
Banyai and Stevens also had second-place finishes in the 400 and 800 meters, respectively. Abbigail Schlough also had a couple of second place finishes. One in the pole vault and one in the triple jump.
Both the Bulldogs and Hilltoppers will be in Glenwood City on Thursday, May 27th for another quad meet. Joining them will be the Mondovi Buffaloes and the Elmwood/Plum City Wolves.
