Willard Tronrud celebrated his 85th birthday on Saturday. Thanks for the cake, Willard, and a very Happy Belated Birthday!
Exercises were done on Monday and Thursday. We try to get everyone limbered up, including ourselves. We did some bowling on Monday afternoon, since the weather was not cooperating for outside time.
Olga Waters was our high scorer that day. Good job Olga and everyone else that played with us!
Following church and care conferences on Tuesday, our plan was to plant some slips we had cut off of some begonias which we wintered inside. Unfortunately, the slips aren’t getting roots as soon as we had figured, so that will have a wait a little while. We instead opted for making some May baskets, which turned out really cute. Several residents helped to make them, and have them hanging in their rooms.
Wednesday was hair day, and Bingo for household E. We received some good news shortly before Bingo started. We are now able to gather together for activities, and residents who are vaccinated won’t have to wear their masks, provided that the staff they are working with are vaccinated also. So on Thursday, we were able to gather C&D together in the lobby area upstairs for Bingo. The residents were also able to sit together to eat. Yeah! It’s a little step, but they are excited. It’s just more fun with more people.
We cut and tied two lap blankets also this week. Ruth and Selma helped us out. Ruth thought it rather silly to cut the edges, then have to tie them back together! She has a point, but they are sure cute, and very warm.
A big “Thank You” to the Sunnyside Shamrocks 4-H Club, who donated some lap blankets the same day that we were actually making them. They look wonderful! We decided we are keeping them until Nursing Home Week, and will give them out as gifts that week. Great job, kids!
Speaking of Nursing Home Week, we have a lot of fun things planned for next week. The theme for this year is “Together Through the Seasons”. It focuses on appreciation to staff who have had to go through many obstacles this entire past year with Covid. It has been a very trying time for residents, staff and family members. Everyone has had to adjust their work routine to help out where needed, not to mention masks, goggles, gowns, gloves and oh so much hand sanitizer. We hope this week will show our appreciation for everyone who has beared with us through this time.
Monday we will be honoring our mothers for Mother’s Day with a game of Whose Mom Am I? We also will be playing Mother’s ABCs. Tuesday will be Patriotic Day. We will be playing a fishing game in the afternoon, and having patriotic fruit pizza for snacks. Wednesday is 50’s Day. We can’t miss Bingo, so we are doing Bingo on Wednesday, but with a few different rules and more $$$$. Malt shop and root beer floats to follow. National Apple Pie Day is Thursday, so we are having a pie bake-off for staff, and the board members will be our judges. Pin the apple on the tree for the residents, as well as apple pie treats. Friday is our Popcorn day, but we will also have a picnic dinner on that day for staff and residents. We have asked the Heutmakers to come and play at 2:00, but it will have to be outside, so that is up to the weatherman. The residents are really looking forward to that, so hope it works out.
