To invest in Wisconsin’s transportation system, Gov. Tony Evers has signed a $3.88 million contract for a resurfacing project on WIS 29 from County CC South west of Spring Valley in Pierce County to WIS 128 in St. Croix County. Clearing operations are expected to start on Tuesday, March 23, with construction beginning in early April.
Monarch Paving Co. is the prime contractor for the project. The pavement on this segment is showing signs of deterioration in the form of cracking and rutting. Construction will entail:
• Milling the existing asphalt, patching the road base and overlaying it with new asphalt.
• Repairing and overlaying the Eau Galle River Bridge.
• Repairing four box culverts in St. Croix County.
• Replacing one culvert in Pierce County.
• Replacing the retaining wall in Spring Valley.
In addition, the village Spring Valley plans to install new water main and service laterals along WIS 29.
During culvert replacement and water main installation, WIS 29 will be closed, and traffic will be detoured using WIS 128, County CC and County G. During the milling and overlaying of WIS 29, one lane will remain open during daylight hours, and traffic will be controlled by flagging operations. During bridge repairs, one lane of WIS 29 will remain open, and traffic will be controlled by temporary signals.
Construction is scheduled for completion in late June. The schedule is dependent on favorable weather conditions and construction progress.
